Cuyuni-Mazaruni (also known as Region 7) is a large and important area in Guyana. It is located in the western part of the country. This region is special because it is part of a territory that both Guyana and its neighbor, Venezuela, believe belongs to them. Venezuela claims parts of this land as belonging to its Delta Amacuro and Bolívar states. The main town and capital of Cuyuni-Mazaruni is Bartica.

About Cuyuni-Mazaruni
Cuyuni-Mazaruni is one of Guyana's ten administrative regions. It covers a huge area of about 47,213 square kilometers (about 18,229 square miles). This makes it one of the larger regions in the country.
People and Population
According to the 2012 census, about 20,280 people live in Cuyuni-Mazaruni. Many of the people living here are from different Indigenous groups, as well as other Guyanese citizens. They often live in small communities scattered throughout the vast forests and along the rivers.
Where is it Located?
This region is in the west of Guyana. It shares borders with several other Guyanese regions:
- To the north: Barima-Waini, Essequibo Islands-West Demerara, and Pomeroon-Supenaam
- To the east: Upper Demerara-Berbice
- To the south: Potaro-Siparuni and the country of Brazil
- To the west: Venezuela
