History of Bata
After some events in 1969, fewer Europeans lived in Bata. The city's economy faced tough times in the 1970s and early 1980s. But then, the country found a lot of oil. This oil boom helped Bata grow and develop a lot in the late 1980s and 1990s.
On March 7, 2021, a series of explosions happened in the city. This event caused many buildings to be damaged. It was a very difficult time for the people of Bata.
What Bata's Economy is Like
Bata has one of the deepest seaports in its region. This means very large ships can come close to the shore. Even though there isn't a natural harbor, a special jetty was built. This jetty helps ships load and unload their goods.
The main things Bata sends out to other countries are timber (wood) and coffee. The port has been made bigger with help from China. It can now handle a huge amount of goods each year.
Bata's Climate
Bata has a tropical monsoon climate. This means it is warm all year round with a lot of rain during certain months. It is not as cloudy as Malabo, another city in Equatorial Guinea.
Bata's dry season happens at different times than other parts of the country. This is because of the Benguela Current in the ocean. The rainiest months are April, May, October, and November. During these months, it can rain over 300 millimeters (about 12 inches). October can be especially wet, with over 450 millimeters (about 18 inches) of rain.
