Bayport is a friendly city in Washington County, Minnesota, USA. It's home to about 4,000 people, based on the 2020 census. Bayport sits right along the beautiful St. Croix River, just a short drive south of Stillwater.

Bayport's Past: A Look at History
Bayport started as three small towns along the St. Croix River. In 1873, these towns joined together to form South Stillwater. It officially became a village in 1881. People often mixed up South Stillwater with the nearby city of Stillwater. So, in 1922, the city changed its name to Bayport.
Lumber and Windows: Bayport's Main Industries
Like its neighbor Stillwater, Bayport's early economy was all about lumber. From 1852 to 1916, many sawmills operated here. These mills cut down trees into wood for building.
The Andersen Corporation is a big company that grew from these early lumber businesses. It moved to Bayport in 1913. One reason was to use the city's train lines, which were built in 1872. The Andersen Corporation became very successful in Bayport. Today, it's the largest maker of windows and patio doors in the world!
Correctional Facilities in Bayport
In 1914, the Minnesota Correctional Facility - Stillwater moved to Bayport. At that time, experts thought it was one of the most modern facilities of its kind. Another facility, the Minnesota Correctional Facility - Oak Park Heights, opened near Bayport in 1982.
Boating on the St. Croix River
Because Bayport is right on the St. Croix River, boating has always been important here. The Bayport Boat Yard used to build famous steamboats. They also built and fixed barges during World War Two. Today, Bayport has the Bayport Marina. Many people use the city's public boat launches to get onto the St. Croix River.
