The Beach Haven School District is a public school district in New Jersey. It serves students from Beach Haven in Ocean County. Students attend from pre-kindergarten up to sixth grade.
As of the 2023–24 school year, the district has one school. It had 63 students and 10.1 teachers. This means there were about 6.2 students for every teacher. In the 2016–17 school year, Beach Haven was one of the smallest school districts in New Jersey. It had only 70 students then.
The district is part of the Interdistrict Public School Choice Program. This program lets students from other towns attend Beach Haven schools. Their home town pays the tuition, so it costs nothing for their parents. The district announces how many spots are open each year for different grades.
The New Jersey Department of Education groups school districts. Beach Haven is in "FG," which is the fourth-highest group. These groups help compare districts based on how wealthy the communities are. The groups go from A (lowest) to J (highest).
What Happens After Sixth Grade?
After sixth grade, students go to the Southern Regional School District. This district serves several towns on Long Beach Island. These towns include Barnegat Light, Harvey Cedars, Long Beach Township, Ship Bottom, and Surf City. Students from Beach Haven and Stafford Township also attend.
The Southern Regional School District has two main schools:
- Southern Regional Middle School: This school has 849 students in grades 7 and 8.
- Southern Regional High School: This school has 1,865 students in grades 9 through 12.
Both of these schools are located in Manahawkin, which is part of Stafford Township.
Beach Haven Elementary School
Beach Haven Elementary School is the only school in the district. As of the 2023–24 school year, it served 63 students. These students are in grades from pre-kindergarten to sixth grade.
School Leaders
The people who help run the school district are:
- Theodore Loeffler, who is the superintendent. The superintendent is like the main boss of the schools.
- Steve Terhune, who is the business administrator. This person handles the money and business side of the district.
School Board
The district has a board of education, which is like a team of five people. This board makes important decisions about the schools. They decide on rules and how the district's money is spent. They also make sure the schools are teaching students well.
The people on the board are chosen by voters in the community. They serve for three years. Each year, one or two spots on the board are open for election. The board then chooses the superintendent and the business administrator to help run the district every day.
