Beallsville is a small village located in Monroe County, Ohio, in the United States. In 2020, about 355 people lived there. This village became well-known because it lost more people in the Vietnam War than any other place in the country, based on its size.

Two large coal mines, Powhatan No. 6 and Century Mine, are located close to Beallsville. These mines used to be owned by a company called Murray Energy.

History of Beallsville

During the Vietnam War in the 1960s, Beallsville faced a very sad time. Five of its citizens died in the war. This was a huge loss for a village with fewer than 500 residents. It meant that Beallsville lost people at a rate 75 times higher than the national average.

Because of this great loss, a Congressman named Clarence Miller asked the government to bring home the other six servicemen from Beallsville who were still fighting. However, this request was not approved.

On March 9, 1969, a sixth person from the village died in combat. This made Beallsville known for having the highest percentage of losses in the Vietnam War of any town in America.
