History of Bellwood
Bellwood was founded in 1890. It was created when a railroad line was built through the area. The village was named after its founder, a person named Jesse D. Bell.

Education in Bellwood
Younger students in Bellwood attend Bellwood Elementary School. It is located right in the village at 612 Park Street.
Once students are old enough for high school, they travel to David City. David City High School is about eleven miles away. Their sports teams are known as the Scouts.
Some students also choose to attend Aquinas & St. Mary's Catholic School. This is a private school also located in David City. The Aquinas mascot is the Monarchs.
