Early Life and Football Start
Benjamin St-Juste was born in Montreal, Canada, on September 8, 1997. His father is Haitian, and his mother is French-Canadian. He grew up speaking French and Haitian Creole. He learned English later at Cégep du Vieux Montréal.
As a young boy, Benjamin played ice hockey. Later, he became interested in American football. His father, Wilbert, also played football. Wilbert was part of the 1989 Miami Hurricanes football team but had an injury before the season started.
College Football Journey
In the mid-2010s, St-Juste went to different college football camps in the United States. He earned a scholarship to play for the Michigan Wolverines. Their coach was Jim Harbaugh.
He played in 12 games during his first year at Michigan in 2017. In his second year, 2018, he did not play much because of a hamstring injury. This is called a "redshirt" year, meaning he could save a year of eligibility. Benjamin finished his degree in sports management from Michigan in two years.
In 2019, he moved to the University of Minnesota as a graduate student. He played for the Minnesota Golden Gophers for two years. During that time, he played in 18 games and made 59 tackles. After his college career, he was invited to the 2021 Senior Bowl, where he made one tackle.
Professional Football Career
Playing for Washington
The Washington Football Team picked Benjamin St-Juste in the third round of the 2021 NFL draft. He was the 74th player chosen overall. Washington got this pick in a trade with the San Francisco 49ers. The Toronto Argonauts also picked him in the 2021 CFL Draft.
St-Juste signed his first professional contract with Washington on May 13, 2021. He played his first NFL game against the Los Angeles Chargers. He made four tackles in that game. In December 2021, he was placed on injured reserve because of a concussion. This means he could not play for a while due to his injury.
For the 2022 season, St-Juste started playing in a different position, called the slot corner. Later, he moved back to playing outside corner. In a game against the Chicago Bears, he made a very important play. He pushed a wide receiver out of the endzone, stopping a touchdown and helping Washington win 12-7.
In Week 9 against the Minnesota Vikings, he deflected a pass from Kirk Cousins. This allowed his teammate, Danny Johnson, to intercept the ball. The next week, in a win against the undefeated Philadelphia Eagles, St-Juste forced a fumble. This led to his teammate, Darrick Forrest, recovering the ball. On January 6, 2023, he was again placed on injured reserve.
In Week 10 of the 2024 season, St-Juste played in all 17 regular season games. He started 14 of those games. He recorded 71 tackles, seven pass deflections, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery.
