Bernalillo (/ˌbɜːrnəˈliːjoʊ/) is a town in New Mexico, United States. It is the main town, or "county seat," of Sandoval County. In 2020, about 8,977 people lived there. Bernalillo is also part of the larger Albuquerque area.

History
A Taste of History: Wine in Bernalillo
Did you know Bernalillo has a long history with wine? Around the 1620s, Catholic priests and Spaniards brought wine grapes to the area. The wine industry quickly grew. Many families made their own wine, and vineyards were everywhere.
Sometimes, droughts and floods made it hard for the wine business. But over time, the wine industry came back strong. Today, making wine is an important tradition in Bernalillo.
The town celebrates its wine history every year with the New Mexico Wine Festival. This festival happens around Labor Day. People from all over New Mexico and tourists come to enjoy it. The festival also helps the local economy.

Where is Bernalillo?
Bernalillo is located in the Rio Grande Valley. It sits on the east side of the Rio Grande river. This area is part of what's called the Albuquerque Basin.
The town covers about 5.3 square miles (13.7 square kilometers) in total. Most of this area is land, with a small part being water.
