Music Career

Joining La Ley (1988–2004)

In 1988, Beto Cuevas met Mauricio Clavería, the drummer for the band La Ley, in Chile. Beto was invited to join the band as their new singer. He quickly became the main voice of La Ley, starting with their first album, "Desiertos."

At first, Beto mainly wrote the lyrics for the songs. The band's founder, Andrés Bobe, wrote most of the music. La Ley became very popular in Chile during this time.

Sadly, in 1994, Andrés Bobe passed away in an accident. This meant Beto had to step up and become the new leader of the band. He worked with his bandmates to keep La Ley going and became the main creative force behind their music.

After Andrés Bobe's passing, La Ley's music changed and became even more popular across Latin America. Beto's time living in North America greatly influenced the band's unique sound.

As La Ley became famous in other countries, they were sometimes called a "Mexican" band in Chile. This bothered the band members. However, in 2001, they won a Grammy Award for Best Alternative Rock Group. This, along with their performance at the Viña del Mar International Song Festival, helped them gain more recognition in their home country.

Later in 2001, La Ley recorded their "MTV Unplugged" album. This acoustic album was a huge hit and helped the band become known as one of the most important Chilean bands ever.

Solo Adventures (2005–2009)

In 2005, Beto Cuevas and his bandmates decided to take a break from La Ley. Beto then started working on his own music.

One of his first solo projects was revisiting the song "Mentira," which was originally on the "La Ley MTV Unplugged" album. This song was also used in the movie "La mujer de mi hermano."

Beto also worked with the Chilean band "Los Prisioneros" on their album "Manzana." He played instruments and sang on some of their songs.

In 2008, Beto released his first solo album, "Miedo Escénico" (which means "Stage Fright"). This album had several popular songs, including "Vuelvo," "Háblame," and "Un Minuto de Silencio." Before releasing the album, he went on a smaller tour in the US.

New Projects and Reunions (2010–Present)

In 2010, Beto Cuevas was scheduled to perform solo at the Viña del Mar Festival. However, a big earthquake hit Chile, and the festival was canceled.

Later that year, Beto released a special version of the classic song "Gracias a la Vida" by Violeta Parra. He worked with many famous singers like Shakira and Miguel Bosé on this song. All the money made from the song went to help people in Chile who were affected by the earthquake.

Beto released his second solo album, Transformación, in 2012. It had 12 songs and featured a duet with Leire Martínez called "Goodbye." This album quickly became popular on music charts. Beto also became a coach on the talent show La Voz... México (The Voice... Mexico).

In 2014, La Ley got back together after nine years. They went on a new tour, but in 2016, the band announced they were splitting up again.

Beto Cuevas continued his career, even playing the role of Jesus Christ in a Mexican musical production of Jesus Christ Superstar in 2019. In 2022 and 2023, he returned to the coaching chair on The Voice Chile.

Personal Life

Beto Cuevas grew up in Caracas, Venezuela, and later in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. His family moved to Canada for political reasons. Because of this, he also has a Canadian passport. He can speak French, English, and Spanish fluently.

In 2002, he married model Estela Mora. They separated in 2007, but she still works as his manager. Beto has two children: Martina (born 1988) and Diego (born 1992).
