Beverly Bond (born December 19, 1970) is an American author, DJ, businesswoman, and helper of others. She used to be a model. Beverly Bond is famous for starting an organization called Black Girls Rock!. This group celebrates the achievements of Black women.

Early Life and Music

Beverly Bond was born in New York City on December 19, 1970. Her mother, Mary Burroughs, raised her. As a child, Beverly lived in different homes across Maryland. She went to a new school almost every year from kindergarten to tenth grade!

Her mother loved music and taught Beverly about many types of music. These included hip-hop, world beat, blues, jazz, soul, and funk. Beverly started collecting her own hip-hop records. She became a serious record collector.

Her Career Journey

Becoming a Model

When Beverly was seventeen, she moved to New York to become a model. Her first agency was Elite New Faces. Because she was 5 feet 9 inches tall, she often modeled for sports brands. Later, she signed with Wilhelmina Models. She appeared in ads for popular brands like Diesel Jeans, Guess, Nike, and Nordstroms.

Becoming a DJ

In November 1999, Beverly bought turntables. She wanted to use her large record collection to become a DJ. She started playing music at clubs in New York. As she got more DJ jobs, she slowly stopped going to modeling auditions.

Beverly became a very popular DJ. She played music for singer D'Angelo's Voodoo album release party. She also toured with Sunshine Anderson and Musiq Soulchild. She was the official DJ for famous artists like Erykah Badu, The Roots, and Amerie.

Beverly Bond has also DJ'd at many big events. These include the Glamour Fashion Awards, the VH1 Fashion Awards, and the Chanel parties during New York Fashion Week. She appeared on BET's Rap City: Tha Basement. In 2012, she was honored at the ASCAP Women Behind the Music event. In 2013, she continued to DJ at New York nightclubs. She also wrote for magazines like Russell Simmons' OneWorld and Essence.

On July 9, 2020, Beverly Bond joined Senator Kamala Harris and other artists. They were part of a virtual fundraiser called "Get Up, Stand Up!" This event supported Joe Biden's 2020 presidential campaign.

Black Girls Rock! Organization

Beverly Bond is the founder of the organization Black Girls Rock! It started in 2006 with T-shirts. It then grew into a program that helps young women. The program teaches them to believe in themselves and feel good about who they are.

In 2006, Beverly also created the Black Girls Rock! Awards. The first show was in Brooklyn, New York. In 2007, the popular award show moved to the famous Lincoln Center in Manhattan. A BET Network executive named Stephen Hill attended the 2007 awards. He helped bring the show to BET/Viacom in 2009.

In 2010, Beverly Bond worked with BET to produce and show the awards on TV for the first time. Beverly was the creator and main producer of the show. It celebrates the achievements of women of color in areas like acting, politics, and music. The show also features many exciting performances.

The first televised show had 2.7 million viewers. The awards won an NAACP Image Award for outstanding Variety Series or Special in 2013 and 2014. The show now reaches 10 million viewers each year! In 2015, Beverly started a related group called Black Girls Rock! Africa.

At the 2016 awards show, Hillary Clinton thanked Beverly Bond for supporting Black women. In May 2016, Beverly received a Women Who Care award in New York.
