Bicentenaria is a type of dinosaur that hunted other animals. It lived about 90 million years ago during the Late Cretaceous time. This dinosaur's fossils were found in what is now Argentina.

Bicentenaria was a theropod, which means it walked on two legs and was a meat-eater. It was a smaller dinosaur, growing to be about 2.5 to 3 meters (8 to 10 feet) long. That's about the size of a small car!

Scientists first reported finding Bicentenaria in June 2012. This dinosaur is an early relative of the much bigger and more famous Tyrannosaurus. Imagine, a tiny cousin to T-Rex!

What Was Bicentenaria?

Bicentenaria was a speedy, meat-eating dinosaur. It belonged to a group called coelurosaurians. This group includes many well-known dinosaurs, like Velociraptor and even birds! Bicentenaria argentina is the only known species in its group.

Where Did Bicentenaria Live?

This dinosaur lived in South America, in the area we now call Argentina. During the Late Cretaceous period, this part of the world had a different landscape. It was likely a warm place with lots of plants and other animals for Bicentenaria to hunt.

Who Discovered Bicentenaria?

The dinosaur was named by a team of scientists led by Fernando Novas in 2012. They found parts of its skull, which helped them understand what this ancient creature looked like. The name Bicentenaria celebrates Argentina's 200th anniversary of its independence.
