James Jackson "Biff" Henderson, Jr. was born on October 3, 1946. He is an American comedian and television personality. Biff is famous for his work on the Late Show with David Letterman. He was the show's stage manager. He also appeared in funny parts of the show. These often showed him interviewing people in public places.

Early Life and Education

Biff Henderson was born in Durham, North Carolina. He got the nickname "Biff" from his mother. A friend of hers had a dream about a boy named "Biff."

When he was in school, Henderson played tennis. One of his friends and tennis opponents was the famous tennis player Arthur Ashe. Henderson finished high school at Hillside High School in Durham. He then earned a degree in business from Hampton Institute. He also served in the United States Army and went to Vietnam.

Starting His TV Career

In 1970, Henderson was in New York for a job interview. He ended up at the RCA Building. While there, he met a janitor who introduced him to an executive at NBC. This meeting led to him joining NBC.

He first worked in the NBC Radio Sales department. Later, he became a stage manager. He worked on NBC's coverage of the World Series. He also helped with coverage of various NASA space missions. He worked on popular TV shows like Today and To Tell the Truth.

Working with David Letterman

Biff Henderson worked with David Letterman for 35 years. Their partnership began in 1980. Henderson was a stage manager for The David Letterman Show on NBC.

He joined Letterman again when Late Night with David Letterman started in 1982. He stayed with this show and later with Late Show with David Letterman on CBS. He worked on both shows for their entire time on air.

Henderson often took part in funny skits on the show. Sometimes, he was the main star of short segments. These segments showed his funny adventures in New York City. His special "theme" music on the show was "Milestones" by Miles Davis.

Other Appearances

In October 2015, Biff Henderson was part of a skit on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. This skit honored the movie Back to the Future. Michael J. Fox (playing Marty McFly) and Christopher Lloyd (playing Emmett Brown) were on the show. They asked Kimmel what happened to their enemy, Biff. Henderson then came onto the stage. "Marty" quickly told Kimmel, "no, not that Biff!"
