Christopher Allen Lloyd (born October 22, 1938) is a famous American actor. He has been in many plays, movies, and TV shows since the 1960s. He is best known for playing Dr. Emmett Brown in the Back to the Future movies. He also played Jim Ignatowski in the TV comedy series Taxi. For his work on Taxi, he won two Emmy Awards.

Lloyd became well-known for his acting in plays in the Northeastern United States in the 1960s and early 1970s. He won awards like the Drama Desk Award and Obie Award for his stage work. His first movie was One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest in 1975. He later starred as Commander Kruge in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock (1984). He was also Professor Plum in Clue (1985) and Judge Doom in Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988).

He played Uncle Fester in The Addams Family (1991) and its sequel Addams Family Values (1993). Other roles include Switchblade Sam in Dennis the Menace (1993) and David Mansell in Nobody (2021). Lloyd won another Emmy for his guest role in Road to Avonlea in 1992. He also won an Independent Spirit Award for his acting in Twenty Bucks.

He has also done a lot of voice acting. He was the voice of Merlock in DuckTales the Movie: Treasure of the Lost Lamp. He voiced Grigori Rasputin in Anastasia. Christopher Lloyd was born on October 22, 1938. His birthplace was Stamford, Connecticut. His mother, Ruth Lloyd, was a singer. His father, Samuel R. Lloyd Jr., was a lawyer. Christopher was the youngest of seven children. His older brother, Samuel Lloyd, was also an actor.

Lloyd's grandfather, Lewis Henry Lapham, helped start the Texaco oil company. Christopher Lloyd is also related to John Howland, a passenger on the famous Mayflower ship. Lloyd grew up in Westport, Connecticut. He went to Staples High School there. He helped start the high school's theater group, the Staples Players.

Lloyd started his acting journey in summer theaters. He took acting classes in New York City when he was 19. He made his first New York theater appearance in 1961. His first role on Broadway was in a play called Red, White and Maddox in 1969. He performed in many Off-Broadway plays too.

In 1977, he talked about his acting training. He said his teacher, Sanford Meisner, helped him be more consistent. This training helped him bring his characters to life on stage.

His first movie role was Max Taber in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975). He acted alongside Danny DeVito in this film. Lloyd became very famous for playing "Reverend" Jim Ignatowski. Jim was an ex-hippie cab driver on the TV show Taxi. He won two Emmy Awards for this role.

Another iconic role was the wild inventor Emmett "Doc" Brown. He played Doc Brown in the Back to the Future movie series. This role earned him a nomination for a Saturn Award. Christopher Lloyd has been married five times. He married Lisa Loiacono in 2016. His nephew, Sam Lloyd, was also an actor. Sam was known for playing Ted Buckland on the TV show Scrubs. Sam Lloyd passed away in 2020.

Christopher Lloyd's former house in Montecito, California, was destroyed in a fire in 2008.
