Billy Matthew King (born January 23, 1966) is an American basketball expert. He has held important jobs with NBA teams. He used to be the general manager for the Brooklyn Nets and Philadelphia 76ers. He also served as the president for the 76ers.

Billy King's Early Life and College Basketball
Billy King grew up in Sterling, Virginia. He played basketball at Park View High School.
He earned a scholarship to play at Duke University. There, he wore jersey number 55. Billy was well-known for his strong defense. In his final year at Duke, he was a team captain. His team made it to the Final Four in 1988. That same year, he was named the NABC National Defensive Player of The Year. This award recognized him as the best defensive player in college basketball.
Billy King's Career After Playing
After his college playing days, Billy King became a coach. He worked as an assistant coach for the Indiana Pacers for four seasons. He learned a lot from head coach Larry Brown. Before that, he was an assistant coach at Illinois State University for four years. He also spent a year as a sports commentator for ESPN. He helped explain men's basketball games for the Ohio Valley Conference.
Working with the Philadelphia 76ers
On June 2, 1997, Billy King joined the Philadelphia 76ers. He started as the vice president of basketball administration. This job meant he helped manage the team's basketball operations. On May 19, 1998, he was promoted to general manager. As general manager, he was in charge of player trades and drafting new players. On April 5, 2000, he signed a new contract to stay with the team. On May 26, 2003, he became both the president and general manager of the 76ers.
In 2005, Billy King and others invested in a business project. On December 4, 2007, the 76ers brought in Ed Stefanski to replace King.
Leading the Brooklyn Nets
On July 14, 2010, Billy King was hired as the general manager for the New Jersey Nets. This team later moved and became the Brooklyn Nets. As the Nets' general manager, King made some big trades. One notable trade involved sending future draft picks to the Boston Celtics. In return, the Nets received experienced star players like Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce. These trades were later seen by some as not the best for the team's long-term future. On January 10, 2016, the Nets changed King's role. Sean Marks, a former NBA player, took over as general manager.
Recent Career Roles
After his time with the Nets, Billy King continued to work in sports. On October 2, 2019, he joined a morning sports talk radio show in Philadelphia. On March 28, 2022, he was hired by Modern Executive Solutions. He became a Senior Partner and Head of Sports and Entertainment there. Most recently, on February 12, 2024, Billy King joined ZRG Partners and TurnkeyZRG as a managing director.
