History of Bingen
Bingen was started by P.J. Suksdorf in 1892. He named the city after a place in Germany called Bingen am Rhein. The city of Bingen officially became a town on April 18, 1924.
The name Bingen is pronounced "BIN-jen" (like "bin" and "jen"). This is different from how its German namesake is pronounced.
Geography and Location
Bingen is located in Washington state at coordinates 45.715311 degrees North and -121.466790 degrees West.
The city covers a total area of about 0.70 square miles (1.81 square kilometers). Most of this area, about 0.62 square miles (1.61 square kilometers), is land. The rest, about 0.08 square miles (0.21 square kilometers), is water.
Climate in Bingen
Bingen has a climate called a Warm-summer Mediterranean climate. This means it has hot, dry summers. Its winters are cold, chilly, and often rainy or snowy.
Compared to places closer to the coast, Bingen's summers are much warmer. However, it still gets a lot of rain in winter, similar to coastal areas. Summer days can be very hot, but the nights are cool. This causes a big difference between daytime and nighttime temperatures.

Getting Around Bingen
Bingen is located along State Route 14. This road connects Bingen to other towns along the north side of the Columbia River.
The Hood River Bridge is west of Bingen. It links State Route 14 to Hood River, Oregon, and Interstate 84. Bingen is also the end point of State Route 141. This highway goes to White Salmon, Trout Lake, and the base of Mount Adams.
The city has a train station called Bingen–White Salmon station. Amtrak trains stop here daily on the Empire Builder route. This route goes between Portland, Oregon, and Chicago. You can also find bus service provided by Mount Adams Transportation Service.
