Birgit Sarrap facts for kids
Birgit Sarrap (born September 24, 1988), also known simply as Birgit, is a famous Estonian singer. She became well-known in 2007 after winning the first season of Eesti otsib superstaari. This show is the Estonian version of the popular Idol TV series.
Her first album, named after herself, came out in 2008. Since then, Birgit has released four more studio albums. In 2013, Birgit represented Estonia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2013. She sang the song "Et uus saaks alguse" after winning Eesti Laul 2013. She made it to the grand final and finished in 20th place.

Birgit's Music Journey
Birgit started her music career as a singer in the Estonian Television children's choir. She also learned to play the violin at the Kohila Music School.
She was the very first winner of Eesti otsib superstaari. This show is Estonia's version of the famous Pop Idol TV series. In 2007, Birgit won a special award at an Italian culture festival. It was called L'Olivo d'Oro, or the Golden Olive. She was the first person who was not Italian to receive this award.
Singing at Eurovision
Birgit sang for Estonia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 in Malmö, Sweden. Her song was "Et uus saaks alguse", which means "So There Could Be a New Beginning". She did very well, making it through the first semi-final. She finished 20th in the grand final.
Before 2013, Birgit tried to enter the Eurovision contest two other times. She tried in 2008 and 2012, but did not make it. In 2002, when Eurovision was held in Tallinn, she was on stage. She performed as a choir singer during a break in the show.
Birgit on Stage: Theatre Roles
Birgit has also acted in professional theatre shows. In 2007, she played the character Sylvia in a play called Two Gentlemen of Verona. This play was written by William Shakespeare. It was directed by a famous Estonian director, Lembit Peterson. The play was performed at the Estonian theatre Theatrum .
At the Vanemuine theatre, she played Maria Von Trapp in The Sound of Music. This show opened in 2010. She also had smaller roles in a popular musical called Peko, which started in 2011. In 2016, she played Sophie in the Estonian version of Mamma Mia. In 2022, she had several roles in "Ada," a musical about the life of Ada Lundver, a famous Estonian actress. In 2024, she was cast in "Rohelised niidud," a musical about the singing group Eesti Raadio Meeskvartett. Sometimes, she also performs with an amateur theatre group in her hometown of Kohila.
Birgit's Family Life
Birgit is married to her manager, Indrek Sarrap. They had their first child, a boy, in October 2013. Their second child, a girl, was born in 2016. The family lives in Tallinn.
Birgit's mother is a music teacher. Her father runs a furniture company in their hometown, Kohila. Birgit is the second youngest of four sisters. She has sometimes performed with her sisters as a singing group. They have appeared on TV shows and at local events.
