A Look Back: Biscay's History
Biscay got its name from the famous Bay of Biscay. This bay is a large part of the Atlantic Ocean. A post office opened in Biscay in 1888. It served the community for many years. The post office closed its doors in 1954. The city officially became a city in 1949.

Biscay is located in the middle of McLeod County. It sits right along Minnesota State Highway 22. This highway connects Biscay to other towns. If you go southeast for 8 miles, you'll reach Glencoe. Glencoe is the main city for the county's government. If you travel northwest for 7 miles, you'll find Hutchinson. Hutchinson is the biggest city in McLeod County.
Biscay's Size and Rivers
Biscay is a very small city when it comes to land area. It covers about 0.075 square miles (0.194 square kilometers). All of this area is land, with no lakes or large rivers inside the city limits. In fact, it's the smallest city in Minnesota by land area.
Just east of Biscay, you'll find the South Fork of the Crow River. This river flows southeast, then northeast. Eventually, it joins the mighty Mississippi River. The Mississippi River is a very important waterway in the United States.
