Condalia globosa, also known as bitter condalia or bitter snakewood, is a type of plant that lives for many years. It can be a shrub or a small tree and belongs to the plant family Rhamnaceae. This plant has smooth, gray bark and can grow up to 4 meters (about 13 feet) tall. Its fruit is a dark violet-black color.

Where Does Bitter Condalia Grow?

Bitter condalia is mostly found in the desert areas of Northwestern Mexico. This includes the states of Sonora and parts of Baja California and Baja California Sur. You can also find it on islands in the Gulf of California.

The plant's range extends north into the southwestern part of the Sonoran Desert in Arizona. It also grows in the Colorado Desert in southeastern California. These areas are generally low in elevation and have very hot temperatures.

In Sonora, Mexico, bitter condalia grows across from where it's found in the Baja regions. It avoids the extremely hot Gran Desierto de Altar in Sonora. It also doesn't grow far east into the mountains of the northern Sierra Madre Occidental. You can also find this plant in some places in northern and central Sinaloa.
