The Black River is a river located in Central Ontario, Canada. It flows through several areas, including Simcoe County, the District Municipality of Muskoka, the City of Kawartha Lakes, and Haliburton County. This river is an important part of the Great Lakes Basin. It flows into the Severn River.

Where Does the Black River Flow?

The Black River starts at Powderhorn Lake. From there, it flows southwest towards Raven Lake. It then goes under Ontario Highway 35. The river continues its journey into the area of Lake of Bays in Muskoka.

It keeps flowing southwest into Minden Hills in Haliburton County. Then it goes back into Muskoka, passing through Bracebridge. The river flows under Ontario Highway 118 and past the community of Vankoughnet. After this, it enters the city of Kawartha Lakes.

The river then turns west and flows over the Ragged Rapids. It leaves Kawartha Lakes and briefly forms the border between Simcoe County and Muskoka. It passes through a spot called the Big Eddy. Finally, it reaches the community of Cooper's Falls in Ramara, Simcoe County. The river turns south, then west, and takes in the Head River. It turns north and reaches its end at the Severn River. The Severn River then flows into Lake Huron.

A Bit of History: The Timber Transport Company

For a long time, people thought the Black River flowed into Lake Couchiching. This idea caused problems for lumbermen back in the 1860s. These lumbermen needed to move logs from the Black River. To solve this, they created the Rama Timber Transport Company. Their goal was to find a way to move logs from the Black River to Lake Couchiching.
