Blackfalds is a growing town in central Alberta, Canada. It is located along Highway 2A. This is about 13.5 kilometers north of Red Deer. The town's name was first Waghorn, after the postmaster Walter Waghorn. In 1903, it changed to Blackfalds. This new name came from a small Scottish village.

How Many People Live in Blackfalds?

The population of Blackfalds has been growing steadily. In 2021, the official census counted 10,627 people living here. This was a good increase from 9,328 people in 2016.
The town also does its own count, called a municipal census. In 2021, this count showed 11,015 residents. Because Blackfalds has more than 10,000 residents, it can now apply to become a city! This is a big step for the community.
Fun Places and Things to Do
Blackfalds has many great public places for everyone to enjoy.
- The Blackfalds Public Library is a place to find books and learn. It is located in the Eagle Builders Centre.
- For outdoor fun, there's the Blackfalds All Wheels Park. You can also visit the Blackfalds Bike Skills Park. Both are on Womacks Road.
- On hot days, the Tayles Water Spray Park is a cool spot. It's right next to the Cultural Centre.
- Blackfalds All-Star Park is a large park in the southwest part of town.
- The Eagle Builders Centre is a big sports and event facility. It is home to the Blackfalds Bulldogs ice hockey team.
- The Blackfalds Abbey Centre is a modern fitness center. It also has an outdoor aquatic center for swimming.

The town has several schools for students. There are four public schools in the Wolf Creek school district. There is also one Catholic school in the Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools district.

Local News and Radio
Blackfalds gets its news from regional newspapers. These include the Red Deer Advocate and Lacombe Express. There used to be a local newspaper called the Blackfalds LIFE, but it closed in 2018.
You can also listen to many radio stations in Blackfalds. These stations broadcast from nearby Red Deer and Lacombe. Some popular ones are Kraze 101.3, Real Country 95.5, and Zed 99.
Sports Teams
Blackfalds is home to the Blackfalds Bulldogs ice hockey team. They play in a league called the AJHL. The team moved to Blackfalds in 2021. Recently, in February 2024, the Bulldogs announced they will be moving to the British Columbia Hockey League.
