Blaine Williamson Gabbert (born October 15, 1989) is an American professional football quarterback. He played college football for the Missouri Tigers. After his junior year, he decided to enter the 2011 NFL draft. The Jacksonville Jaguars picked him in the first round as the 10th overall player.
Blaine has played for several NFL teams. These include the San Francisco 49ers, Arizona Cardinals, Tennessee Titans, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Kansas City Chiefs. He won two Super Bowls as a backup quarterback. He won Super Bowl LV with the Buccaneers and Super Bowl LVIII with the Chiefs.

Early Life and High School Football
Blaine Gabbert was born in Ballwin, Missouri. This town is a suburb of St. Louis. He went to Parkway West High School in Ballwin. There, he played for the Parkway West Longhorns high school football team.
He was a highly rated player, considered one of the best in the country. In 2007, he was invited to a special camp for quarterbacks called Elite 11. He won the MVP award at this camp. In January 2008, he played in the US Army All-American Game. During his junior year, he threw for 1,523 yards and 20 touchdowns. He also ran for 458 yards and scored eight touchdowns. Even with a foot injury that limited him to four games in his senior year, he still had 623 passing yards and five touchdowns.
College Football Career
After high school in 2008, many colleges wanted Blaine Gabbert to play for them. He was considered the top pro-style quarterback recruit in the nation. He first planned to go to Nebraska. However, he changed his mind when their coach was fired. He then decided to play for the University of Missouri.
His coach at Missouri, Gary Pinkel, decided Blaine would play right away. He was the third-string quarterback in his first year. He played in five games, helping his team score touchdowns and field goals. He completed 5 of 13 passes for 43 yards. He also ran for 22 yards.
Standout Seasons at Missouri
Blaine had a great start in 2009. He threw for 313 yards and three touchdowns against the Illinois Fighting Illini. He also ran for another touchdown. He set a personal best with 468 passing yards against Baylor. This was the second-best single-game passing total in Missouri's history.
He was named to the Second-Team All-Big 12. He ranked second in the Big 12 conference in passing efficiency. He also ranked fourth in the Big 12 in total offense. He completed 262 of 445 passes for 3,593 yards. He threw 24 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He was also recognized for his good grades.
In 2010, Blaine led Missouri to a 23–13 win over Illinois. He threw for 281 yards and two touchdowns. He also helped his team beat Colorado and Texas A&M. A big highlight was upsetting the #1 ranked Oklahoma team. This win ended a long losing streak against them. In his final season, he had 3,186 passing yards, 16 passing touchdowns, and five rushing touchdowns.

Professional Football Career
In January 2011, Blaine Gabbert decided to enter the NFL draft. He was chosen by the Jacksonville Jaguars as the 10th overall pick. The Jaguars traded up to get him. He was the third quarterback picked in that draft. He is the only quarterback from the first round of that draft class to win a Super Bowl.
On July 28, 2011, Gabbert signed a four-year contract with the Jaguars. It was worth $12 million.
Jacksonville Jaguars (2011–2013)
Blaine quickly became the starting quarterback for the Jaguars. He played his first NFL game on September 18, 2011. This was against the New York Jets. The next week, he started against the Carolina Panthers. In Week 5, he threw a 74-yard touchdown pass. At 22 years old, he became the youngest player to start 14 games in a season. He played most of his rookie season with a toe injury.
His rookie season was tough. He was sacked 40 times, which was one of the highest in the league. He also fumbled 14 times. His completion percentage was 50.8%, which was low. Many people thought his struggles were due to injuries and a difficult team situation.
In 2012, Blaine had a new head coach, Mike Mularkey. He threw for a career-high 260 yards in the first game. He also had two touchdowns. In Week 3, he threw an 80-yard touchdown pass. Later that season, he tore a labrum in his non-throwing shoulder. He also had a right forearm injury. These injuries ended his season early.
Blaine returned for the 2013 season. He played only three games. He had a broken thumb before the season started. During the season, he suffered a cut hand and a hamstring injury.
San Francisco 49ers (2014–2016)
On March 11, 2014, Blaine was traded to the San Francisco 49ers. His new coach, Jim Harbaugh, believed in his talent. He thought Blaine could do much better in a new situation.
Blaine played his first game for the 49ers on October 19, 2014. This was against the Denver Broncos. He completed three passes for 38 yards and a touchdown. This was his only game in the 2014 season.
In 2015, the 49ers re-signed Blaine. He became the starting quarterback on November 2, 2015. His first start was on November 8, 2015. He led the 49ers to a 17–16 victory over the Atlanta Falcons. He completed 15 passes for 185 yards and two touchdowns. In a game against the Bears, he ran for a 44-yard touchdown. This was his first rushing touchdown. He then threw a 71-yard game-winning touchdown in overtime. He finished the 2015 season with 2,031 passing yards. He had ten touchdowns and seven interceptions.
In 2016, Blaine started the first five games. He had a 1–4 record. He was later benched for another quarterback. He finished the season with 925 passing yards and five touchdowns. He also had 173 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns.
Arizona Cardinals (2017)
Blaine signed with the Arizona Cardinals on May 10, 2017. He started as the third-string quarterback. He became the starter in Week 11 due to injuries to other players. In that game, he threw for 257 yards and a career-high three touchdowns. He played in five games for the Cardinals. He finished with 1,086 passing yards, six touchdowns, and six interceptions.
Tennessee Titans (2018)
On March 27, 2018, Blaine signed with the Tennessee Titans. He played in the first game of the season. He entered the game after the starter was injured. He started the next game and won. He also started in Week 3 against his old team, the Jaguars. He left that game with a concussion. He started the final game of the 2018 season. The Titans lost and missed the playoffs. He was released by the Titans in March 2019.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2019–2022)
Blaine signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on March 27, 2019. He was placed on injured reserve with a dislocated shoulder. He re-signed with the Buccaneers in 2020. On February 7, 2021, he was the backup quarterback for Tom Brady in Super Bowl LV. The Buccaneers won the Super Bowl, giving Blaine his first championship ring.
He re-signed with the Buccaneers again in 2021 and 2022. He remained Brady's backup. In 2022, he played in one game. He completed six passes for 29 yards and a touchdown.
Kansas City Chiefs (2023)
Blaine signed with the Kansas City Chiefs on April 19, 2023. He started the last regular season game. This was because the Chiefs rested their main quarterback, Patrick Mahomes. In his first start since 2018, he completed 15 passes for 154 yards. The Chiefs won the game 13–12. He won his second Super Bowl when the Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII. His contract with the Chiefs ended on March 13, 2024.

Personal Life and Family
Blaine Gabbert enjoys deep-sea and fly fishing in his free time. He has two brothers. His brother Tyler also played college football. His youngest brother, Brett Gabbert, is a quarterback for the Miami University RedHawks.
On December 29, 2022, Blaine and his brothers helped save four people. They were riding jet skis near Davis Islands in Tampa. They saw what looked like pieces of a helicopter in the water. They also saw two yellow life jackets. The brothers checked it out and called 911. They helped three people get out of the water and onto their jet skis. Police officers arrived and helped the fourth person. The Buccaneers Coach, Todd Bowles, called their rescue "outstanding."
