Discovering Blairlogie
Blairlogie used to be called Blair. It is part of the Logie parish, which was once in Perthshire. The very old Logie Kirk (a church) is just to the west of the village.
A Village with History
Blairlogie is special because many of its buildings are old cottages from the 1600s to the 1800s. It was one of the first places in central Scotland to be named a Conservation Area in 1969. This means the village's historic look and feel are protected.
Blairlogie Castle's Story
At the base of a hill called Castle Law, you'll find Blairlogie Castle. It is also known as "The Blair." Alexander Spittal built this castle in 1543. Later, in 1891, Lieutenant Colonel Hare bought the castle and the land around it. He updated the castle to make it more modern.
Famous Faces and Conservation
Blairlogie has been home to some interesting people, including poets, actors, and sports stars.
Saving Old Buildings
In 1940, an actor named Moultrie Kelsall bought and fixed up an old building called Kirklea Cottage. It was built in the 1700s. This was an early project to save old buildings. Kelsall also helped save nearby Menstrie Castle. His son, Robin, later wrote about growing up in Blairlogie.
Sports Stars and Poets
The famous Scottish International rugby player Kenny Logan used to live in Blairlogie. Many of his family members still live in the area. Also, from 1598 to 1609, a poet named Alexander Hume was the minister at Logie Kirk.
