In 1856, a man named Alvin Blanchard moved to the area. He bought the mill on the Pecatonica River from the Mormons. Most of the Mormons then moved away. In 1857, Alvin Blanchard and Cyrus Newkirk planned out the village. They named it Blanchardville, after Alvin Blanchard. The village got its first post office in 1858.

Many different groups of people settled here. These included people from Norway, Ireland, Switzerland, and Germany. The Norwegians became a very important group in the village. Different churches were built over time, like a Methodist church in 1852 and a Catholic church in 1898.

McKellar Park is the main park in Blanchardville. It was given to the village in 1930 by the wife of Dr. Archibald McKellar, a well-known doctor. Today, the park hosts fun events like an annual car show and a Father's Day Barbeque.

The local school district is called Pecatonica Area Schools. It was formed in 1971 when Blanchardville's school joined with the school in Hollandale. The school mascot is the Viking, which honors the strong Norwegian heritage of the area.
