How Bland Got Its Name
The city of Bland has had a post office since 1877. It was named after a famous person from Missouri, Richard Parks Bland. He was a U.S. Congressman, which means he was elected to represent people from Missouri in the United States government. Before the city was named after him, Richard P. Bland worked as a lawyer in a nearby town called Rolla.

In 2020, the city of Bland became a filming location for an indie movie called SCP: Overlord. This short film is part of the popular SCP Foundation universe, which is a fictional world with strange creatures and objects. The movie was written by Evan Muir and directed by Steven Hancock. It even won five awards at the Tampa Bay Underground Film Festival, including "Best Short Film."
