Bloom's restaurant was a famous kosher Jewish deli in London. It was known for its tasty traditional Jewish food. For many years, it was the oldest kosher restaurant in England. Even people who were not Jewish knew about Bloom's. The restaurant followed strict Jewish food rules, overseen by the London Beth Din.
History
Bloom's restaurant started in 1920. It was opened by Morris Bloom in Brick Lane, London. Morris Bloom was an immigrant from Lithuania.
His son, Sidney Bloom, later took over the family business. In the early 1930s, the restaurant moved to Old Montague Street. Then, in 1952, it moved again to Whitechapel High Street. Later, a second Bloom's restaurant opened in Golders Green.
The original restaurant in the East End closed in 1996. This happened because the neighborhood was changing.
For many years after that, only the Golders Green restaurant remained. It was in north west London. In 2007, this restaurant was updated. It continued to serve traditional Ashkenazi-style Jewish food. This was different from many other kosher restaurants in London, which often served Israeli-style food.
A new Bloom's restaurant opened in Edgware in 2007, but it later closed. Soon after, the last Bloom's restaurant, the one in Golders Green, also closed its doors in the summer of 2010.
