Bloomfield is a city in Stoddard County, Missouri, United States. It is the main town, also known as the county seat, for Stoddard County. In 2020, about 1,755 people lived here. During the American Civil War in September 1864, much of the town was destroyed by fire.

History of Bloomfield
The first people to settle permanently in Bloomfield arrived in 1824. They built their homes where a Native American community had once lived. The town was officially planned out, or "platting," in 1835.
Bloomfield got its name from the many beautiful wildflowers that grew in the area. A post office has been open in Bloomfield since 1836, helping people send and receive mail.
The Stoddard County Courthouse is a very old and important building in the city. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. This means it is recognized as a special historical site.
Geography and Location
Bloomfield is located in the state of Missouri. It is about 6.5 miles north of another town called Dexter. You can find it along Missouri Route 25.
The city covers a total area of about 1.35 square miles (3.19 square kilometers). All of this area is land, with no large bodies of water inside the city limits.

Arts and Culture in Bloomfield
One of the most interesting places in Bloomfield is the National Stars and Stripes Museum and Library. This museum helps to keep the history of the Stars and Stripes Newspaper alive. This newspaper is very famous because it has been published for the U.S. Armed Forces for a long time.
The museum also tells the story of the American Civil War in the area. On November 9, 1861, soldiers from Illinois camped here. It was during this time that the very first edition of the Stars and Stripes military newspaper was printed in Bloomfield.
Education in Bloomfield
Students in Bloomfield attend schools run by the Bloomfield R-XIV School District. The district has one elementary school for younger students. There is also one middle school and Bloomfield High School for older students.
The town also has a public library called the Bloomfield Public Library. It offers books and resources for everyone in the community.
Famous People from Bloomfield
- Dorothy Langley (1904-1969) was an author. She wrote novels that were published by a well-known company, Simon and Schuster.
- Norman Adolphus Mozley (1895-1897) was a congressman from Missouri. He had a law office in Bloomfield and is buried in the city.
