Blue Ridge Shores is a special kind of community in Louisa County, Virginia, United States. It's called a census-designated place (CDP). A CDP is an area that looks like a town but isn't officially governed as one. In 2020, about 801 people lived there. This area started being built in 1960. It was planned as a fun resort community right around Lake Louisa.
Where is Blue Ridge Shores?
Blue Ridge Shores is located in the northern part of Louisa County. It's in a hilly area of Virginia called the Piedmont region.
It is about 8 miles (13 km) north of Louisa, which is the main town of the county. The community is also about 30 miles (48 km) east of Charlottesville. If you travel northwest for about 63 miles (101 km), you will reach Richmond.
Land and Water
The U.S. Census Bureau says that Blue Ridge Shores covers a total area of about 1.8 square miles (4.7 square kilometers). Most of this area, about 1.4 square miles (3.6 square kilometers), is land. The rest, about 0.4 square miles (1.1 square kilometers), is water.
Lake Louisa is a large lake right in the middle of the community. This lake was created by building a dam on a stream called Hickory Creek. Hickory Creek flows northeast into the North Anna River. The water from this river eventually reaches the Pamunkey River watershed. This leads to the York River and finally to the Chesapeake Bay.
