Bluerock Mountain is a cool mountain in Western North Carolina. It's close to a small town called Bat Cave. This mountain is special because it's split between two counties: Henderson and Rutherford. Bluerock Mountain is home to the amazing Bat Cave Preserve. It is also part of the larger Chimney Rock State Park. This mountain stands tall at about 2,835 feet (864 meters) high!

Where is Bluerock Mountain?

Bluerock Mountain is surrounded by other interesting natural features. The Broad River flows to its north. Reedypatch Creek is located to its west. To the south, you'll find Rich Mountain. Chimney Rock Mountain is to the east.

There's a special low point called Paris Gap. This gap is between Bluerock Mountain and Bald Mountain. It helps connect the community of Bat Cave with the town of Chimney Rock. You can travel between them using Lake Lure Highway. This highway is also known as US 64, US 74A, and NC 9.

The Bat Cave Reserve

A big part of Bluerock Mountain is protected land. The side of the mountain in Rutherford County is part of Chimney Rock State Park. This area is known as the Bat Cave Reserve. It's named after the many different kinds of bats that live in the cave.

The Bat Cave is very important for these bats. Because of this, it is a protected reserve. It is not open to the public to visit. This helps keep the bats safe and undisturbed. The Bat Cave is also special because it is the largest known granite fissure cave in North America. A fissure cave forms when cracks in the rock get bigger over time.
