Robert Douglas Brown (born September 24, 1984) is a former professional basketball player from the United States. He was a point guard, standing 6 feet 2 inches tall. Today, he works as the director of player development for the Cal State Northridge Matadors men's basketball team.
After finishing college at Cal State Fullerton, Bobby Brown hoped to join the NBA. He entered the 2007 NBA draft but was not chosen by any team. He then started his professional career playing overseas. In 2008, he returned to the U.S. and played for several NBA teams. These included the Sacramento Kings, Minnesota Timberwolves, New Orleans Hornets, and Los Angeles Clippers.
While playing for Montepaschi Siena in Italy, Brown achieved a special scoring record. He tied a EuroLeague scoring record by scoring 41 points in one game. This was the highest score in the EuroLeague since the 2000–01 season. In 2013, he won the Alphonso Ford EuroLeague Top Scorer Trophy for being the best scorer in the EuroLeague.

High School Basketball
Bobby Brown went to Westchester High School in Los Angeles, California. He played high school basketball there. Some of his teammates, like Trevor Ariza and Hassan Adams, also went on to play in the NBA.
College Basketball Career
After high school, Bobby Brown played NCAA Division I college basketball for the Cal State Fullerton Titans. He played with them from 2003 to 2007. In the 2005–06 season, he was chosen for the All-Big West Conference First Team.
During his four years at Cal State Fullerton, he scored a total of 1,961 points in 116 games. This means he averaged about 16.9 points per game. At that time, he became the school's all-time leading scorer.
Professional Basketball Journey
Starting Out in Europe
Bobby Brown left Cal State Fullerton in 2007. He was not picked in the 2007 NBA draft. In August 2007, he signed with the German team ALBA Berlin. He helped them win the German national league. He also played in an exciting EuroCup game that went into five overtimes. In that game, he scored 44 points, which was the second-highest score ever in that competition.
First Time in the NBA
In 2008, Brown came back to the U.S. He played for the New Orleans Hornets in the NBA Summer League. A big moment was when he made a game-winning shot against the Charlotte Bobcats. Because of his great play, the Sacramento Kings offered him a two-year contract. Other NBA teams and even teams from overseas also wanted him.
On February 19, 2009, Brown was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves. He was traded again on September 9 to the New Orleans Hornets. Then, on January 26, 2010, he was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers. In July 2010, Brown joined the Toronto Raptors for the 2010 NBA Summer League.
Playing in Europe Again
On September 22, 2010, Brown signed with the Polish team Asseco Prokom. He later left the team in December. He then signed a two-month contract with the Greek club Aris on December 3, 2010. On August 5, 2011, Brown signed with the German team EWE Baskets Oldenburg.
Time with Montepaschi Siena
On August 8, 2012, Brown signed a one-year contract with the Italian team Montepaschi Siena. He took the place of another top scorer, Bo McCalebb. Brown went on to win the Alphonso Ford EuroLeague Top Scorer Trophy in 2013. He averaged 18.8 points per game in the 2012–13 EuroLeague season. He also averaged 5.3 assists per game, which was fourth-best in the league.
On January 4, 2013, Brown scored 41 points in a game against Fenerbahçe Ülker. This amazing performance tied the EuroLeague's single-game scoring record since the 2000–01 season. He was named the EuroLeague MVP of the Month for January.
Playing in China
In the summer of 2013, Brown signed with the Dongguan Leopards in China. On December 27, 2013, he scored an incredible 74 points in one game. This was in an overtime win against the Sichuan Blue Whales. His 74 points were the second-highest score ever in a single game in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) at that time. He was just one point shy of the record. In May 2014, Brown signed a new three-year contract with Dongguan.
Back to Turkey
On March 28, 2016, Brown signed with Beşiktaş Sompo Japan in Turkey. He played for them for the rest of the 2015–16 season.
Second Time in the NBA
On September 23, 2016, Brown signed with the Houston Rockets. He played in six games before being waived on December 5, 2016. However, he re-signed with the Rockets on December 16. On September 25, 2017, Brown signed with the Rockets again. He was waived by them on January 5, 2018.
More International Teams
On February 22, 2018, Brown signed with Olympiacos in Greece. He played for them for the rest of their season. On November 1, 2018, Brown signed a one-year contract with Mornar in Montenegro. He left Mornar on November 28. On February 1, 2021, Brown signed with the NBA G League Ignite.
The Basketball Tournament
Bobby Brown also played in The Basketball Tournament (TBT). This is a special tournament where teams compete for a big cash prize. In 2018, he played for the CitiTeam Blazers. He averaged 20.5 points per game. In TBT 2019, Brown played for the team Overseas Elite. They had won the tournament four times in a row. His team made it to the semifinals but lost their first-ever game.
Playing for His Country
Bobby Brown represented the United States national team in 2015. He played at the Pan American Games. There, he helped the team win a bronze medal.
After Playing Basketball
On July 31, 2023, Bobby Brown started a new role. He was announced as the director of player development for the Cal State Northridge Matadors men's basketball team. This means he helps young players improve their skills.
Personal Life
Bobby Brown shares his name with the famous American R&B singer, Bobby Brown. He has often joked about it. People would sometimes ask him about the singer's former wife, Whitney Houston. When he signed with the Sacramento Kings, sports news outlets made jokes about the singer's songs.
