José Roberto Pulido Jr. (born April 25, 1971), known as Bobby Pulido, is an American singer, songwriter, and actor. He is famous for helping to make Tejano music popular with young people. He became a teen idol and a very important Tejano artist for Mexican-American teenagers.

Bobby Pulido started his music career in 1995. He signed a record deal with EMI Latin and released his first album, Desvelado. This album was very successful, reaching high spots on music charts. The main song, "Desvelado", made him a popular Tejano singer. Some older musicians felt his success was partly because his father, Roberto Pulido, was already famous.

His album Enséñame (1996) also did very well. It earned him nominations for important music awards. In 1998, Bobby Pulido made history by performing a sold-out show in Monterrey, Mexico. He was the first Tejano artist to do this. He won the Male Entertainer of the Year award at the Tejano Music Awards three years in a row. After 2000, Tejano music became less popular, and his albums didn't do as well on the charts.

In 2003, Pulido started acting in a TV movie called La Decada Furiosa. He also appeared in TV shows like Fuego en La Sangre and Qué pobres tan ricos. After a break from music, he released Dias de Ayer in 2010. He also continued acting in films like Noches Con Platanito. In 2024, Pulido announced he would go on a farewell music tour starting in January 2025. He also shared his plans to run for public office in Texas.

About Bobby Pulido

Early Life and Music Start

José Roberto Pulido Jr. was born on April 25, 1971, in Edinburg, Texas. His father, Roberto Pulido, is a famous Tejano music singer. His mother, Diana Montez, is the daughter of norteño musician Mario Montez. Bobby Pulido went to Edinburg High School. He was part of the school's mariachi band.

Later, he joined his father's band, Los Clásicos. He played the saxophone and sang backup. In 1994, he worked with his father on a song called "Contigo". Bobby Pulido also studied business management at St. Mary's University. But he decided to leave college to focus on his singing career. This was during a very popular time for Tejano music.

Becoming a Music Star

Bobby Pulido formed his own band in 1995. Some other Tejano musicians at first thought he was only successful because of his famous father. In May 1995, he signed a deal with EMI Latin. His first album, Desvelado, came out that September. The head of EMI Latin believed Bobby would do well in the country music world.

His first song, "No Se Por Que", became popular in December 1995. The album Desvelado quickly became a hit. It made Bobby Pulido one of the most popular Tejano artists. By April 1996, the album was a top seller. Music experts called him a "fast-rising artist". The album sold over 100,000 copies in the US. By the end of 1996, Bobby was one of the best-selling regional Mexican artists. He also won an award for Best New Rising Male Tejano Artist in 1996.

Continued Success and New Music

In July 1996, Bobby Pulido married Eliza Anzaldua. He then released his second album, Enséñame. This album was a ranchera style with catchy cumbia parts. Critics said his singing had improved a lot. Enséñame also reached high spots on the music charts. Several songs from the album became top hits on the radio.

The album earned him nominations for Male Entertainer of the Year. In 1997, Bobby Pulido helped sing "Viviras Selena" for the movie soundtrack about Selena. Selena was known as the "Queen of Tejano Music". By 1997, Bobby was known for bringing Tejano music to a younger audience in the US.

In 1998, Pulido released his third album, Llegaste a Mi Vida. It was also very successful on the charts. He won several awards at the 1998 Tejano Music Awards. These included Male Vocalist of the Year and Tejano Album of the Year. Both Desvelado and Llegaste a Mi Vida sold 100,000 copies in Mexico. This was a big achievement for him.

In September 1998, he released his first live album, En Vivo: Desde Monterrey Mexico. This album was recorded at a sold-out concert in Monterrey. He was the first Tejano artist to sell out that venue. In March 1999, he released his fourth album, El Cazador. He also received the Orgullo de la Frontera award in February 1999. In 1999, Bobby said he wanted to record a Latin pop album.

Changes in Music and Acting

Around 2000, Tejano music became less popular. However, Bobby Pulido remained a teen idol for many young Mexican-American girls. He was one of the most important Tejano artists for this group. In March 2000, he released Zona de Peligro. This album did not do as well as his earlier ones. But he still won the Tejano Music Award for Male Entertainer of the Year for the third time.

His next album, Siempre Pensando En Ti (2001), also had less commercial success. It was his last album to appear on the Billboard music charts for a while. In 2002, Bobby Pulido organized a golf event. It raised $50,000 for the Easter Seals program. The mayor of McAllen, Texas, even declared November 2, 2002, as "Bobby Pulido Day".

In 2002, he released his album Bobby. It included a popular song called "Vanidosa". He also covered a song by Mexican singer Juan Gabriel. His albums Montame (2003) and Vive (2005) did not appear on the charts. This ended his eight-year run on Billboard.

Bobby Pulido started acting in 2003 in the TV movie La Decada Furiosa. He played himself in the movie. In 2005, he was a guest on the TV show Big Brother México. He also performed at the live concert Selena ¡VIVE! in April 2005. His album Enfermo de Amor came out in 2007. After this album, he took a three-year break from music. He also appeared in three episodes of the TV show Fuego en La Sangre.

He continued acting, appearing in the TV show Noches Con Platanito from 2013 to 2015. In 2014, he had a role in the TV show Qué pobres tan ricos. In November 2015, he released "No Es Como Tú" from his album Hoy. This was his first album where he wrote all the songs himself.
