Bonaduz (also called Panaduz in Romansh) is a small town, or municipality, located in the Imboden Region of Switzerland. It is part of the Graubünden canton, which is like a state in Switzerland.

A Look Back: History of Bonaduz

Bonaduz was first written about in the year 960. Back then, it was known as Beneduces.

For a long time, a small German-speaking village called Sculms was part of Bonaduz. But in 1854, the people of Sculms voted to join another town, Versam.

Bonaduz covers an area of about 14.5 square kilometers (5.6 square miles). A big part of this land, about 61.3%, is covered by forests. About 25.2% of the land is used for farming.

Until 2017, Bonaduz was in the Rhäzüns sub-district. After 2017, it became part of the larger Imboden Region. The village of Bonaduz is a haufendorf. This means it's an unplanned village with buildings packed closely together around a central area. It sits on a high flat area southwest of where the Hinterrhein and Vorderrhein rivers meet.
