Domat/Ems is a town in the Imboden Region of the Graubünden canton in Switzerland. It is known by its Romansh name, Domat, and its German name, Ems. Since 1943, the official name has been the combination of both.

Domat/Ems was first mentioned in old records in the year 765. Back then, it was called colonia de Amede. The German name for the town is Ems. The Romansh name is Domat. In 1943, both names were officially combined to form Domat/Ems.

Domat/Ems covers an area of about 24.2 square kilometers (9.3 square miles). A large part of this land, about 53.8%, is covered by forests. About 27.7% of the area is used for farming. Around 12.2% of the land has buildings or roads. The rest, about 6.4%, is made up of rivers or mountains.
The town is located on the right side of the Rhine river. Before 2017, it was part of the Rhäzüns sub-district. Now, it is part of the Imboden Region.

In the 2007 national election, the most popular political party was the Swiss People's Party, which got 33.3% of the votes. Other popular parties included the Christian Democratic People's Party of Switzerland and the Social Democratic Party of Switzerland.
Most adults in Domat/Ems are well-educated. About 68.9% of people aged 25–64 have finished advanced schooling. This includes high school or even university.

Interesting Places to See in Domat/Ems
The Dreibündenstein Monument
The Dreibündenstein is a special stone monument. It marks the spot where three historical groups, called the Three Leagues, met. These leagues later formed the canton of Graubünden. The stone is located high up on a mountain, at 2,160 meters (7,087 feet) above sea level. It sits on the border of Domat/Ems and two other towns.
The original stone was placed in 1722. Today, that old stone is in a museum in Chur. The tall stone marker you see now was built in 1915. In 1970, a chair lift was added to the mountain. This makes it much easier for people to visit the monument.
Important Heritage Churches
Domat/Ems has two churches that are very important historical sites. They are the Baselgia S. Gion Baptista (Church of St. John the Baptist) and the Chaplutta S. Peder (Church of St. Peter).
The Church of St. John the Baptist was built on top of an old guard tower. This tower was made part of the church when it was first built. In the early 1500s, the church was rebuilt in a Gothic style. Beautiful wooden carvings were added to its altars at that time.
The Church of St. Peter was built around the year 800. It was built on the remains of an even older church from the 7th or 8th century.
Modern Fravi Apartment Building
The Fravi apartment building is a modern building in Domat/Ems. It was designed by architect Raphael Zuber and built between 2005 and 2016. This building was even shown at a famous architecture exhibition in Venice in 2016.
Getting Around Domat/Ems
Domat/Ems has four railway stations. These stations connect the town to other places like Disentis/Mustér, Scuol-Tarasp, Chur, and St. Moritz. The train lines make it easy for people to travel to and from Domat/Ems.
