Feldis/Veulden is a lovely village located in the municipality of Domleschg. It's part of the Viamala Region in the Swiss canton of Graubünden. This charming place used to be its own separate municipality. However, in 2009, Feldis joined with nearby towns to form the municipality of Tomils. Later, in 2015, it became part of the larger Domleschg municipality.

A Glimpse into Feldis's Past
Feldis/Veulden has a long history! It was first mentioned in old records around the years 1290-1298. Back then, it was known simply as Felden. This shows that people have lived in this area for a very long time.
Exploring the Geography of Feldis
Feldis/Veulden covers an area of about 7.6 square kilometers (or 2.9 square miles). A big part of this land, about 35.4%, is used for farming. Even more, 57.1%, is covered by forests. Only a small part, 1.8%, has buildings or roads. The rest of the land, about 5.7%, includes things like rivers or mountains.
The village is located in the Domleschg district. It's a special type of village called a Haufendorf. This means it's an unplanned village with buildings packed closely together around a central area. Feldis sits on a high, flat area (a terrace) about 1,469 meters (or 4,820 feet) above sea level. It's on the eastern side of the Hinterrhein valley. Before 1943, the village was just called Feldis.
Who Lives in Feldis?
In 2007, Feldis/Veulden had a population of 140 people. About 8.6% of these residents were from other countries. Over the ten years before 2007, the number of people living here grew a little, by about 0.7%.
In the year 2000, there were more females than males in Feldis. About 42.9% of the population was male, and 57.1% was female. Looking at age groups in 2000:

- 12.4% were between 10 and 14 years old.
- 4.7% were between 15 and 19 years old.
- Adults aged 20 to 59 made up about 46.6% of the population.

Languages Spoken in Feldis
For a long time, the main language spoken in Feldis was Romansh, specifically a dialect called Sutsilvan. However, since the year 1900, more and more people started speaking German.
Today, most people in Feldis speak German. There's still a small group of people who speak Romansh. In 2000, about 85.3% of the population spoke German. Romansh was the second most common language, spoken by 14.0% of people. A very small number, 0.8%, spoke French.
