Rothenbrunnen (which is called Romansh: Giuvaulta in Romansh) is a small town, also known as a municipality. It is located in the Viamala Region in the Swiss canton of Graubünden.

History of Rothenbrunnen
Rothenbrunnen was first mentioned in official records in 1472. Back then, it was known as Hof Juvalt. Later, in 1572, it got its current name, zum Roten Brunnen.
Geography of Rothenbrunnen
Rothenbrunnen covers an area of about 3.1 square kilometers (1.2 square miles). A large part of this land, about 67.7%, is covered by forests. About 11.6% of the land is used for farming. Buildings and roads take up 9.4% of the area. The remaining 11.3% is made up of things like rivers or mountains.
Until 2017, Rothenbrunnen was part of the Domleschg sub-district. Now, it is part of the Viamala Region. The town is a linear village, meaning it stretches out along a line. It is located on the right side of the Hinterrhein river. The small settlement of Ravetsch (also called Ravetg) is also part of Rothenbrunnen.
Rothenbrunnen's Coat of Arms
The coat of arms for Rothenbrunnen shows a red fountain on a silver background. Above it, there is a golden star on a blue background. This design is an example of "canting arms." This means the picture on the coat of arms helps explain the name of the place. In German, "Rothen" means red, and "brunnen" means fountain.
