Borris L. Miles, born on October 29, 1965, is a politician from Texas. He is a member of the Democratic Party. Since November 2016, he has represented District 13 in the Texas Senate. Before that, he was a member of the Texas House of Representatives, where he represented District 146. This district includes parts of Harris County, Texas, like Sunnyside, Houston and Third Ward, Houston.

Early Life and Education

Borris Miles grew up in Sunnyside, Houston. He went to Yates High School there. After high school, he studied at Sam Houston State University. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice and criminal science. This means he learned about laws and how the justice system works.

Time in the Texas House of Representatives

Miles was first chosen to be a State Representative for District 146 in November 2006. He was re-elected in November 2010. He then took his oath of office for the House of Representatives in January 2011 and again in January 2013. His next term, in the 84th legislative session, started in January 2015.

The Texas Classroom Teachers Association recognized Miles as a "Star of the 2011 Legislative Session." This shows he was seen as a helpful and important lawmaker.

As a member of the Agriculture & Livestock Committee, he worked on and helped pass new laws. These laws were designed to help small farms and businesses in cities grow. For example, he helped pass a bill called HB 2994. This bill aimed to give money to research centers and small farms that focus on urban agriculture.

In the 83rd Texas Legislative Session, Miles was chosen to be part of the Elections Committee and the Licensing & Administrative Procedures Committee. These appointments were made by Speaker Joe Straus.

Personal Life

Borris Miles lives in Houston, Texas. He is married to Cydonni Fairfax Miles. He is also a member of the Theta Mu chapter of the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity.

In 2007, Miles started a program called Hip Hop 4 HIV. This program was created to help fight the spread of AIDS in African American and Latino communities. It organized free hip hop concerts where people could get tested for HIV. This helped raise awareness and encourage testing.

Miles has a health condition called sickle cell anemia. He is also a member of the Catholic faith.
