Box Elder is a small community in Hill County, Montana. It is known as an unincorporated community, which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. It's also a census-designated place (CDP), which is an area the government defines for counting people.

Box Elder is important because it is the main center for the Chippewa and Cree tribes. The community got its name from the box elder trees that grow along a nearby creek. The post office opened in 1889. It was first called "Bremer" after an early settler.
