Bradley James Allan (born February 14, 1973 – died August 7, 2021) was an amazing Australian martial artist, action choreographer, actor, and stunt performer. He was a key member of the famous Jackie Chan Stunt Team in Hong Kong. Brad also created exciting action scenes for many big Hollywood movies. You might know him best for playing Alan in the movie Gorgeous (1999).

Brad Allan's Early Life and Training

Brad Allan started learning boxing and karate when he was about 10 years old. When he turned 14, he began studying Wushu, a Chinese martial art, and gymnastics. He even spent two years training with top Wushu experts, Liang Chang-xing and Tang Lai-wei, who also trained the famous actor Jet Li.

Brad learned many other martial arts too! These included Karate, Aikido, Hapkido, Taekwondo, Wing Chun, Boxing, and Kickboxing. He also spent time in Shanghai, China, where he learned to speak Mandarin. In 1993, he appeared in his first movie, Drunken Master III.

Joining the Jackie Chan Stunt Team

In 1997, Brad was part of the Australian team at the World Wushu Championships in Rome. Later that year, he heard that Jackie Chan was filming a movie called Mr. Nice Guy in Melbourne, Australia. Brad knew some of the Australian crew working on the film.

He was invited to show his martial arts skills to the action director, Cho Wing. Brad had a small part in Mr. Nice Guy. After that, he was asked to join Jackie Chan's next movie, Who Am I? (1998). In this movie, he performed stunts for other actors.

Soon after, Jackie Chan invited Brad to join his stunt team, 'Sing ga ban'. Brad was the very first non-Asian member of this famous team! He worked hard and eventually became a leader within the stunt team.

Brad Allan's Work in Hollywood

In the 2000s, Brad Allan became very busy. Besides working with Jackie Chan, he started getting jobs as an action choreographer and director for big Hollywood movies. Some of these included The Chronicles of Riddick and Hellboy II: The Golden Army.

In 2010, Brad worked with British director Edgar Wright on the movie Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. He was the second unit director, which means he helped direct action scenes. Brad and his team worked with Edgar Wright again on Cuban Fury and The World's End.

Brad Allan sadly passed away on August 7, 2021, at the age of 48. Jackie Chan shared the news on social media. One of Brad's last movies, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which came out in September 2021, is dedicated to him.
