Early Life and College Basketball Journey
Brandon Davies was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was adopted and grew up in Provo, Utah. He went to Provo High School, where his basketball team won state championships in his second and third years. After looking at other schools, Davies decided to play college basketball at Brigham Young University.
As a freshman in the 2009–10 season, Davies played a supporting role. But in his second year, he became a very important player for the Cougars. He was the main inside player for the 2010–11 Cougars team, which was known for its great shooters. This team was led by Jimmer Fredette, who later became a national player of the year. BYU had a fantastic record of 27 wins and only 2 losses and was ranked number 3 in the country by the AP Poll. During this time, Davies had a temporary break from the team.
Davies returned to the team for his junior year. He was named to the All-West Coast Conference team in both his junior and senior seasons at BYU. In his final year, Davies was the team captain. He averaged 17.7 points and 8.0 rebounds per game (meaning he scored 17.7 points and grabbed 8.0 rebounds on average in each game).
Professional Basketball Career
After finishing college at BYU, Brandon Davies was invited to a special camp called the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament (PIT). This camp helps players show their skills before the NBA draft. Davies played very well, scoring 20.7 points and grabbing 9.3 rebounds per game. He was even named the MVP (Most Valuable Player) of the PIT. Because of his great performance, he was invited to the Chicago NBA draft combine. Even though he was not chosen in the 2013 NBA draft, he joined the Los Angeles Clippers for the 2013 NBA Summer League. On September 5, 2013, he signed a contract with the Clippers but was later released on October 21.
Playing for the Philadelphia 76ers (2013–2014)
On October 28, 2013, Davies signed with the Philadelphia 76ers. He played his first NBA game on November 2, 2013, against the Chicago Bulls. He scored two points in just two minutes of playing time. On January 18, 2014, he broke a finger on his right hand, which needed surgery and about a month to heal.
On November 5, 2014, Davies had his best game in the NBA, scoring 20 points. This was in a close game where his team lost 89–91 to the Orlando Magic.
Time with the Brooklyn Nets (2014–2015)
On December 11, 2014, Davies was traded to the Brooklyn Nets. This trade involved other players and future draft picks. On January 6, 2015, he was released by the Nets after playing in seven games for them.
Moving to Élan Chalon (2015)
On January 12, 2015, Davies signed with Élan Chalon, a French basketball team in the LNB Pro League. He joined them for the rest of the 2014–15 LNB Pro A season to replace a player who was injured. He helped Élan reach the league playoffs.
Playing for Pallacanestro Varese (2015–2016)
In August 2015, Davies signed with Pallacanestro Varese, an Italian team in Varese, for the 2015–16 season.
Joining AS Monaco (2016–2017)
In July 2016, Davies signed with AS Monaco, another French team. They play in the LNB Pro A and the Basketball Champions League.
Success with Žalgiris Kaunas (2017–2019)
In the summer of 2017, Davies played in The Basketball Tournament on ESPN. He played for Team Fredette, trying to win a $2 million prize. In their first game, he scored 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds, but his team lost.
On June 23, 2017, Davies signed a contract with Žalgiris Kaunas, a Lithuanian basketball team. During his two seasons with Žalgiris, Davies helped the team achieve great success, especially in the EuroLeague. On May 9, 2019, Davies was named to the All-EuroLeague First Team. This was a big honor, as he was the first Žalgiris player to receive this award in 15 years.
Playing for FC Barcelona (2019–2022)
On July 4, 2019, Davies signed a two-year deal with the Spanish club Barcelona. In only his second game with Barcelona, Davies had an amazing performance. He scored 24 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in a 95–87 win.
Time with Olimpia Milano (2022–2023)
On June 24, 2022, Davies signed a two-year contract with the Italian champions Olimpia Milano. They play in the Lega Basket Serie A and the EuroLeague. On July 5, 2023, Davies and the team decided to part ways.
Playing for Valencia (2023–2024)
On July 5, 2023, Davies signed a two-year deal with the Spanish club Valencia. On July 4, 2024, he left the club.
Joining Partizan (2024–Present)
On August 20, 2024, Davies signed with Partizan. This team plays in the ABA League, Basketball League of Serbia (KLS), and the EuroLeague.
Playing for His National Team
Around the time he moved to Barcelona, Brandon Davies also got a Ugandan passport. This was helpful because, under a special agreement, African players don't count towards the same limited spots on teams in the Liga ACB (Spanish league) as American players. As part of this, Barcelona agreed to let Davies play some games for the Uganda national team. In November 2021, he played in three 2023 World Cup qualifying games in Benguela.
