Brandon Christopher Jacobs (born July 6, 1982) is a former American football player. He played as a running back in the National Football League (NFL). Most of his career was with the New York Giants.
Brandon played college football for the Auburn Tigers and Southern Illinois Salukis. The Giants picked him in the fourth round of the 2005 NFL draft. He won two Super Bowl championships with the Giants. Both wins were against the New England Patriots. He also played one season for the San Francisco 49ers. After that, he returned to the Giants for his last season.
Jacobs was known for being taller and heavier than most NFL running backs. He stood at 6 feet 4 inches (1.93 m) and weighed 264 pounds (120 kg). He was also very fast for his size. He won two Super Bowls in seven seasons with the New York Giants. He holds the Giants' record for the most career rushing touchdowns. He also ranks fourth in career rushing yards for the team.

Early Life and High School Football
Brandon Jacobs grew up in Napoleonville, Louisiana. His mother and her sisters raised him. Later, his aunt and uncle became his legal guardians. He did not have a relationship with his father.
Brandon played both basketball and football at Assumption High School. In his final year, he was recognized as an All-America player by USA Today. He also received other awards. During that senior year, he ran for over 3,000 yards. He scored 38 touchdowns.
College Football Journey
Playing at Coffeyville Community College
Brandon Jacobs started his college football career at Coffeyville Community College in Kansas. This was in 2001. In his first year, he ran for 1,349 yards and 17 touchdowns. He was named the team's Most Valuable Player (MVP).
In his second year, he gained 1,896 yards and 20 touchdowns. He averaged 7.1 yards per carry. These efforts earned him a JUCO All-American title. He was also named to the KJCCC All-Conference First-team. He won the Team MVP award again. His 1,896 rushing yards are the second-highest in the Ravens' history for a single season.
Time at Auburn University
After Coffeyville, Jacobs went to Auburn University. He played alongside future first-round draft picks. These included Carnell Williams and Ronnie Brown. Jacobs was the third-string running back on the team. In 2003, he gained 446 yards on 72 carries. He scored 2 touchdowns for the Auburn Tigers.
Success at Southern Illinois
After the 2003 season, Jacobs moved to Southern Illinois. His one year there was very successful. He led the team with 150 carries for 992 yards. He also scored 19 touchdowns. This was just one less than the school's all-time leader.
Jacobs was chosen as an All-American first-team player. He was also named the Gateway Conference Newcomer of the Year. He led his conference in scoring. He ranked tenth in the nation, averaging 9.5 points per game.
Professional Football Career
Joining the New York Giants
The 2005 NFL draft saw Jacobs picked by the New York Giants. He was the 110th player chosen overall. He was considered the 11th best running back in the draft.

For the 2006 season, Jacobs worked to improve his running style. He studied videos of famous power running back Eddie George. In 2006, Jacobs carried the ball 96 times. He gained 423 yards and scored nine touchdowns. He averaged 4.4 yards per carry. He also caught 11 passes for 149 yards.
After Tiki Barber retired, Jacobs became the Giants' starting running back. This was for the 2007 season. He hurt his knee in the first game. But he returned four weeks later. In that game, he rushed for 100 yards and a touchdown. Jacobs missed two more games later that season due to a hamstring injury. Still, he finished the regular season with 1,009 rushing yards and four touchdowns. He also caught 23 passes for 174 yards and two touchdowns. Jacobs scored the winning touchdown against the Dallas Cowboys in the playoffs. He started every game as the Giants won Super Bowl XLII.
Jacobs had wrist surgery in 2008. He played all of the preseason games. But he missed two regular season games because of knee problems. He finished the 2008 season with 1,089 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns. In 2008, he and Derrick Ward both rushed for over 1,000 yards. They were one of only a few pairs of teammates to do this.
He was known as "Earth" in the Giants' running back group. The group was nicknamed "Earth, Wind, & Fire." The other backs were Derrick Ward (Wind) and Ahmad Bradshaw (Fire). Jacobs was also called "The Juggernaut." This was because he was so big and hard to tackle.
On February 13, 2009, the Giants kept Jacobs by using the Franchise Tag. A week later, he signed a four-year contract with the team. He had most of the carries that season. On December 31, 2009, Jacobs was placed on injured reserve due to a knee injury.
On September 19, 2010, Jacobs threw his helmet into the stands. He was fined $10,000 for this. On November 24, 2010, he was named the Giants' number one running back again. This was for a game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
At the end of the 2011 season, Jacobs and the Giants played in Super Bowl XLVI. He had 9 carries for 37 yards. The Giants beat the New England Patriots 21–17. The Giants released Jacobs on March 9, 2012.
Time with the San Francisco 49ers
Jacobs signed with the San Francisco 49ers on March 28, 2012. He missed the first two months of the season. This was due to a knee injury he got during training camp. When he returned, he played very little. He was active for only two games. He had five carries for seven yards. He was mostly the third or fourth choice for running back.
The 49ers suspended him for the last three games of that season. This happened after Jacobs posted on social media about not playing much. He said he was "on this team rotting away." The 49ers let Jacobs go on December 31, 2012.
Return to the New York Giants
Jacobs signed a one-year contract to return to the New York Giants. This was on September 10, 2013. He played in 7 games. He rushed for 238 yards on 58 carries. He averaged 4.1 yards per carry and scored 4 touchdowns. On January 2, 2014, Jacobs announced he was retiring after nine seasons.
On May 27, 2021, Jacobs posted on Twitter. He said he would try to return to the NFL as a defensive end. He asked for "Just one chance."

Personal Life and Appearances
In June 2011, Jacobs acted in the final episode of Law & Order: Criminal Intent. On October 19, 2012, Jacobs appeared on the TV show Shark Tank. He was there with Tania Patruno, the founder of Pro NRG. They pitched the company's protein supplement drink. Jacobs also appeared on an episode of Impact Wrestling. This episode aired on February 16, 2012. During the show, Jacobs put wrestler Bully Ray through a table.
