The Giants' Amazing Playoff Journey
The Giants had an exciting path through the playoffs. They had to win four tough games in a row to become champions.
Winning the Wild Card Game
The Giants' first playoff game was against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This game was played in Tampa, Florida, at Raymond James Stadium. The Giants played very well and won the game with a score of 24-14. It was a big win to start their playoff run.
Beating Their Rivals: Dallas Cowboys
Next, the Giants faced their rivals, the Dallas Cowboys. This game took place in Irving, Texas, at Texas Stadium. The Giants had lost to the Cowboys twice during the regular season. But this time, the Giants surprised everyone and won 21-17. The Cowboys' quarterback, Tony Romo, threw an interception near the end of the game, which helped the Giants secure their victory.
Conquering the Green Bay Packers
The third playoff game was against the Green Bay Packers. This was a very cold game played at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The game went into overtime because the score was tied. In overtime, the legendary Packers quarterback, Brett Favre, threw an interception. A Giants player named Corey Webster caught the ball. This play led to the Giants winning the game 23-20. It was a memorable moment, as it was Favre's last pass as a Packer.
Super Bowl XLII: The Ultimate Upset
The Giants made it all the way to Super Bowl XLII! Their opponent was the New England Patriots. The Patriots were a super strong team and had not lost a single game all season. Most people thought the Patriots would easily win the Super Bowl.
However, the Giants had other plans. The game was very close and exciting. One of the most famous plays in NFL history happened in this game. It was called the "Helmet Catch". In the fourth quarter, a Giants player named David Tyree caught the football by pressing it against his helmet. This amazing catch helped the Giants keep their drive going.
The Giants kept fighting and won the game 17-14. This victory was a huge surprise and is known as one of the biggest upsets in Super Bowl history. The Giants stopped the Patriots from becoming the first NFL team to finish a season with 19 wins and no losses.
Other Notable Achievements
The 2007 Giants team achieved a few other special things.
Playing in London: International Series
The Giants were the first team from the NFL International Series to win a Super Bowl. They played a game against the Miami Dolphins in London, England, during the regular season. This was the very first NFL game ever played in London.
Road Warriors: Winning Away from Home
The 2007 Giants were also the first team from the NFC (National Football Conference) to win three playoff games while playing away from their home stadium. This showed how tough and determined they were, no matter where they played. They often wore their blue jerseys for these important road playoff games against teams like Tampa Bay and Dallas.
