Early Life and High School Football
Breece Hall was born in Omaha, Nebraska. He grew up in Wichita, Kansas, where he went to Wichita Northwest High School.
During his junior year, Breece was amazing on the field. He ran for 2,082 yards and scored 36 touchdowns. This earned him first-team All-Metro and first-team All-State honors. In his senior year, he continued to shine. He rushed for 2,127 yards and 29 touchdowns. He was again named first-team All-State and the Wichita Metro Player of the Year.
College Football Career
Breece became the main running back for Iowa State in his first year. This happened after David Montgomery left for the NFL. In one game against West Virginia, Breece rushed for 132 yards and scored three touchdowns. He was named the co-Newcomer of the Week for his great play. The next week, he earned the award again. He ran for 183 yards and two touchdowns, and also caught passes for 73 yards. He finished his first season with 897 rushing yards and nine touchdowns. He also caught 23 passes for 252 yards and one touchdown. He was named second-team All-Big 12.
In his second year, Breece started strong, rushing for over 100 yards in eight games in a row. He led all college players in rushing yards with 1,572. He also scored 21 rushing touchdowns. He caught 23 passes for 180 yards and two touchdowns. Breece was named first-team All-Big 12 and the conference's Offensive Player of the Year. He also became the first unanimous All-American in his school's history.
As a junior in 2021, Breece continued his excellent performance. He had 1,472 rushing yards and 302 receiving yards. He scored a total of 23 touchdowns that season. After this successful year, Breece decided to enter the 2022 NFL draft early.
Professional Football Career
Breece Hall was chosen by the New York Jets in the second round of the 2022 NFL draft. He was the 36th player picked overall, making him the first running back selected that year.
2022 Season Highlights
Breece played his first NFL game in Week 1 of the 2022 season. He scored his first professional touchdown in Week 2 against the Cleveland Browns. It was a ten-yard catch from quarterback Joe Flacco. In Week 5, playing against the Miami Dolphins, Breece had an amazing game. He rushed for 97 yards and caught passes for 100 yards, scoring a touchdown. The Jets won that game 40–17.
His performance in Week 6 against the Green Bay Packers was also outstanding. He ran for 116 yards and scored a rushing touchdown. For this, he was named the FedEx Ground Player and Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week.
However, in Week 7 against the Denver Broncos, Breece suffered a serious injury. He tore his ACL and meniscus in the second quarter. This injury ended his first NFL season early. He was placed on the injured reserve list on October 25, 2022.
2023 Season Highlights
Breece worked hard to recover from his injury. He was cleared to play again on August 15, 2023. In Week 1, during a Monday Night Football game against the Buffalo Bills, Breece showed he was back. He ran for 127 yards, including an exciting 83-yard run. The Jets won in overtime.
In Week 5 against the Denver Broncos, Breece had another huge game. He rushed for 177 yards, including a 72-yard touchdown run. The Jets won 31–21. In Week 8, against the New York Giants, he scored a 50-yard receiving touchdown. He finished that game with 76 receiving yards and 17 rushing yards as the Jets won in overtime.
Breece finished the 2023 season with strong numbers. He had 994 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns. He also caught 76 passes for 591 receiving yards and four receiving touchdowns.
Family Connections to Football
Breece Hall has many family members who have played professional football. His step-father, Jeff Smith, played for the Chiefs and Buccaneers in the NFL. His cousin, Kenton Keith, also played for the Jets for a short time, which is Breece's current team. Kenton also played in the CFL. Breece's third cousin is Roger Craig, a famous running back who won three Super Bowls with the San Francisco 49ers in the 1980s.
