Breinigerberg is a small village in Germany. It is one of 17 villages that are part of the town of Stolberg (Rhineland). Stolberg is a major town in the Aachen area. In 2005, about 971 people lived in Breinigerberg.

About Breinigerberg

The L12 country road goes right through the middle of Breinigerberg. This road connects Breinigerberg to a place called Breinig in the west. To the east, it leads to a crossing known as Nachtigaellchen, which is close to Mausbach.

Nature and History

East of Breinigerberg, you'll find the Stolberg forest. This forest is part of the North Eifel Nature Park. There is also the Schlangenberg Nature Reserve. This reserve is famous for its special plants, especially those that grow in soil rich in calamine.

The Schlangenberg hill is 276 meters (about 905 feet) high. It was formed because of an old mine in Breinigerberg. Names like Bleiweg, which means "Way of lead," still remind us of the village's mining past. The calamine from the Breinigerberg mine was used in Stolberg to make brass.

The history of Breinigerberg goes back to the Romans. People have found 25 Roman coins here. These coins date from 100 BC to 92/93 AD. Remains of a Roman craftsmen's settlement have also been found. These buildings show that ancient Romans worked in the Breinigerberg area between 100 and 400 AD.

Local Facilities and Events

The old primary school in Breinigerberg closed in 1988. Now, it's an information center for the Schlangenberg nature reserve. The Eifel- und Heimatverein Breinig runs this center. It is open to everyone and shares details about the unique plants and animals of the Schlangenberg region. You can also see old tools used in the Breinigerberg ore mines.

North and south of Breinigerberg, there are more nature reserves. These include places like Brockenberg and Baerenstein. Most of these areas used to be chalk pits.

Breinigerberg has two sports fields. The local football team, FC. Breinigerberg, uses them. The old primary school building is also used as a youth center called Remember.

One of the biggest events in Breinigerberg is the funfair. It takes place one week after Pentecost.
