Brendan Gleeson (born 29 March 1955) is a famous Irish actor. He is known for playing many different characters in movies and TV shows. He has won several important awards for his acting. These include a Primetime Emmy Award and three IFTA Awards. He has also been nominated for an Academy Award and Golden Globe Awards.
Brendan Gleeson is well-known for his roles in popular films. These include Braveheart (1995) and the Harry Potter film series. He also appeared in Paddington 2 (2017). He has played leading roles in movies like In Bruges (2008) and The Guard (2011).

Brendan Gleeson was born in Dublin, Ireland, on March 29, 1955. His parents were Pat and Frank Gleeson. When he was a child, he loved to read books. He went to St Joseph's CBS in Fairview, Dublin for his secondary education. There, he was part of the school's drama group.
He later studied at University College Dublin. He focused on English and Irish. After college, he worked as a teacher for several years. He taught Irish and English at Belcamp College in North County Dublin. While teaching, he also acted in plays in Dublin. In 1991, he decided to become a full-time actor.
Acting Career Highlights
Brendan Gleeson started his film career when he was 34 years old. He first became famous in Ireland for playing Michael Collins in a TV film called The Treaty in 1992. He won an award for this role.
He has acted in many well-known movies. Some of these include Braveheart, Gangs of New York, and Troy. He also appeared in 28 Days Later and A.I. Artificial Intelligence. He earned great praise for his role as a real-life figure in the 1998 film The General.

Harry Potter and Other Popular Roles
Brendan Gleeson played the character of Mad-Eye Moody in the Harry Potter film series. He appeared in the fourth, fifth, and seventh Harry Potter movies. His son, Domhnall Gleeson, also acted in the series as Bill Weasley.
He was the voice of Abbot Cellach in The Secret of Kells. This animated film came out in 2009. Gleeson also starred in the short film Six Shooter in 2006. This film won an Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film.

Brendan Gleeson has been married to Mary Weldon since 1982. They have four sons together: Domhnall, Fergus, Brían, and Rory. Two of his sons, Domhnall and Brían, are also actors. He also has one grandson.
Gleeson speaks Irish fluently. He supports promoting the Irish language. He is also a big fan of the English football club Aston Villa, just like his son Domhnall.
