Brett Young (born April 3, 1967 – died March 3, 2015) was an American football player. He was a defensive back, which means he helped stop the other team from scoring. Brett played for seven seasons in the Canadian Football League (CFL). His teams included the Ottawa Rough Riders, BC Lions, and Hamilton Tiger-Cats. He was also chosen by the Buffalo Bills in the NFL draft, but he played most of his career in Canada. Before turning pro, he played college football at the University of Oregon.

Brett Young's Football Journey

College Days

Brett played college football for the Oregon Ducks. He was on the team from 1985 to 1988. During his time there, he made nine interceptions. An interception happens when a defensive player catches a pass meant for an offensive player.

Starting Pro Football

Playing for the Ottawa Rough Riders

On August 15, 1989, Brett joined the Ottawa Rough Riders in the CFL. He started on their practice team. Soon after, he got to play in his first CFL game on August 21, 1989. This was against the Toronto Argonauts. He played in 24 games for the Rough Riders between 1989 and 1990.

Time with the BC Lions

In 1992, Brett was traded to the BC Lions. He played in eleven games for them during that year.

Back to Ottawa

Later in the 1992 season, Brett went back to the Ottawa Rough Riders. He played one game that year. He then stayed with the Rough Riders from 1993 to 1995. In 1995, he was named Ottawa's best defensive player. He also earned a spot on the CFL Northern All-Star team that year.

Joining the Hamilton Tiger-Cats

In 1996, Brett was traded to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. He played in twelve games for them during the 1996 season.
