Early Life and Family

Brigitte Marie-Claude Trogneux was born on April 13, 1953, in Amiens, France. She was the youngest of six children. Her parents were Simone and Jean Trogneux. They owned a famous chocolate company called Trogneux. This family business was started in 1872 in Amiens. Today, her nephew, Jean-Alexandre Trogneux, runs the company. Brigitte grew up in a Catholic family. She went to a private Catholic school in Amiens called Lycée du Sacré-Cœur.

Her Career as a Teacher

Brigitte Macron had a long career as a teacher. In the 1980s, she taught literature in Strasbourg. Later, in the 1990s, she taught French and Latin. She taught at Lycée la Providence, a high school in Amiens.

From 2007 to 2015, she taught at Lycée Saint-Louis-de-Gonzague. This is a very respected private school in Paris. While teaching there, she taught French to Frédéric and Jean Arnault. They are the sons of a well-known French business leader, Bernard Arnault.

How Brigitte Met Emmanuel Macron

Brigitte and Emmanuel Macron first met at Lycée la Providence. She was in charge of the after-school drama club. Emmanuel, who was 15 at the time, attended this club. In 1989, Brigitte Macron tried to get a seat on the city council of Truchtersheim. This was the only time she ran for a political office. She was not successful in that election.

In 2017, Brigitte Macron played an important part in her husband's campaign. He was running to become the president of France. Many people said her presence was very helpful to him. During his campaign, Emmanuel Macron said his wife would have a clear role. He wanted her to be visible and active if he won.

He suggested creating an official "first lady" title for his wife. This role would come with its own staff and office. However, many people signed a petition against this idea. They did not want an official budget for the first lady. Because of this, the French government decided Brigitte Macron would not have an official title. She would also not have a special budget. She later explained that a new plan would show her role and the resources she would use. This plan was published soon after.

Personal Life

On June 22, 1974, Brigitte married André-Louis Auzière. He was a banker. They had three children together: Sébastien (born 1975), Laurence (born 1977), and Tiphaine (born 1984). The family lived in Truchtersheim until 1991. Then, they moved to Amiens.
