Brinkley is a small area, also known as a locality, in South Australia. It used to be a small town. You can find it west of the Murray River. It's about 16 kilometers (or 10 miles) southwest of Murray Bridge by road.
The official borders for Brinkley as a locality were set in March 2000. It got its name from a larger historical area called the Hundred of Brinkley. This "Hundred" was named after Captain M. Brinkley. He was an important government official in 1860.
What is the Hundred of Brinkley?
The Hundred of Brinkley is a much larger historical division of land. It's bigger than the modern locality of Brinkley. These "Hundreds" were old ways of dividing up land in Australia. They helped with managing land and records.
