Jervois is a small town in South Australia. It is located on the western side of the lower Murray River. This area is mostly a farming community. Many farms here raise dairy cows. They use the flat land near the river and the gently sloping hills behind it.
About Jervois
Jervois is part of the Rural City of Murray Bridge. This is a local government area, like a council that manages the town. Jervois is about 99 kilometers (62 miles) southeast of Adelaide. Adelaide is the capital city of South Australia.
Location and Features
Jervois sits across the Murray River from another town called Tailem Bend. To get between the two towns, people use a special cable ferry. This ferry carries cars and people across the river. Tailem Bend is built high up on cliffs, which is very different from Jervois, which is closer to the river's edge.
History of Jervois
The town of Jervois was officially planned and mapped out in 1927. It was named after William Jervois. He was a very important person in South Australia's history. He served as the governor of South Australia. A governor is like a leader or representative for the King or Queen in a state.
