Brinson is a small town located in Decatur County, Georgia, in the United States. It is part of the Bainbridge, Georgia area. In 2020, the town had a population of 217 people. This was a slight increase from the 215 people counted in the 2010 census.
History of Brinson
Brinson has had a few different names over the years, like "Mount Zion" and "Spring Creek." The town got its current name from Simeon Brinson. He was an early postmaster, which means he was in charge of the local post office. He was also the town's very first mayor.
The state of Georgia officially recognized Brinson as the "Town of Brinson" in 1907. This meant it became a proper town with its own local government. Farming is a very important activity in the area around Brinson.
Geography of Brinson
Brinson is located in the northwestern part of Decatur County. You can find it at these coordinates: 30°58′45″N 84°44′10″W / 30.97917°N 84.73611°W.
U.S. Route 84 is a main road that goes through the southwest side of the town. If you travel southeast on this road, you will reach Bainbridge, which is about 10 miles away and is the main city of Decatur County. If you go northwest, you will reach Dothan, Alabama, which is about 44 miles away.
The United States Census Bureau says that Brinson covers a total area of about 5.3 square kilometers (or 2.04 square miles). All of this area is land, meaning there are no large bodies of water like lakes or rivers within the town limits.
