Early Life and Sports Beginnings

Brittany Bowe was born in Ocala, Florida. Her parents are Michael and Deborah Bowe. From a very young age, Brittany loved playing many sports. She played basketball and soccer. When she was only two years old, she would show off her dribbling skills during halftime at college basketball games!

Brittany was so good at soccer that she made it onto a statewide team for boys under 13. But she eventually stopped playing soccer because its season overlapped with basketball.

School and College Years

Brittany went to Trinity Catholic High School in Ocala. After high school, she attended Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton. There, she played basketball for the Florida Atlantic Owls team. She finished college in 2010, studying sociology and social science.

Inline Speed Skating Career

When Brittany was eight years old in 1996, she started trying inline skating. She quickly became very good at it. She competed in world championships from 2002 to 2008. During these years, she won a total of 32 medals! Eleven of these medals were won in senior championships, which are for adult athletes.

Basketball Career

After the 2008 inline speed skating world championships, Brittany decided to focus more on basketball. She played as a point guard for the Florida Atlantic Owls college team.

Speed Skating Journey

Brittany saw her friends, like Chad Hedrick and Heather Richardson, compete in speed skating at the 2010 Winter Olympics. This inspired her to try speed skating herself. In 2010, she decided to take a break from basketball and moved to Salt Lake City to start training.

She quickly became successful in speed skating. In January 2013, she earned her first podium finishes (meaning she placed in the top three) in the 2012–13 ISU Speed Skating World Cup. She finished third in two 1000-meter races in Calgary, Canada. Six weeks later, in March, she won her first World Cup gold medal in the 1000 meters in Erfurt, Germany. Overall, she finished second in the 1000 meters World Cup that season.

On March 23, 2013, Brittany won her first speed skating world championship medal. It was a bronze medal in the women's 1000 meters race.

On November 17, 2013, Brittany set a new world record for the 1000 meters with a time of 1:12.58. This happened at a World Cup event in Salt Lake City. During the 2013–14 World Cup season, she won five medals in the 1000 meters (one gold, three silver, one bronze). She also won one gold, one silver, and one bronze medal in the 1500 meters.

The 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, were a bit challenging for Brittany. She finished 13th in the 500 meters, 8th in the 1000 meters, and 14th in the 1500 meters.

In the 2015 World Single Distance Speed Skating Championships, she had a fantastic performance. She won gold medals in both the 1000 and 1500 meters races. She also earned a silver medal in the 500 meters. After that, she went on to win the 2015 World Sprint Speed Skating Championships.

During the 2014–15 World Cup season, Brittany continued to excel. She won four medals in the 500 meters, five medals (including three golds) in the 1000 meters, and three medals (including one gold) in the 1500 meters. She won the overall 1000 meters World Cup title that season.
