Brittany Bowe, born on February 24, 1988, is an amazing American athlete. She is famous for her speed skating, but she also used to be a great inline skater and basketball player.

She has won many medals in inline speed skating, including 8 gold medals at world championships. When she was younger, she won 21 more world championship medals! She also earned a gold medal in roller skating at the 2007 Pan American Games.

In speed skating, Brittany is best at races like the 500, 1000, and 1500 meters. She won a bronze medal in the 1000 meters at the 2013 World Single Distance Championships. In 2015, she won two gold medals (1000m and 1500m) and a silver medal (500m) at the World Single Distance Championships. She also won the 2015 World Sprint Championships that year.

Brittany has won two bronze medals at the Olympic Games, one in 2018 and another in 2022. She was also given the 2015 Oscar Mathisen Award for her great performance in the 1000 meters race.

She currently holds the world record for the 1000 meters distance. She also used to hold the world record for the 1500 meters and still holds the American record for that distance.

Early Life and Sports Beginnings

Brittany Bowe was born in Ocala, Florida. From a very young age, she loved playing many different sports. These included basketball and soccer. When she was only 2 years old, she would show off her dribbling skills at college basketball games during halftime!

Even though she was good enough to join a statewide under-13 boys' soccer team, she decided to stop playing soccer. This was because the soccer season overlapped with basketball, and she wanted to focus on basketball.

She went to Trinity Catholic High School in Ocala. Later, she attended Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton. There, she played basketball for the Florida Atlantic Owls team. She finished college in 2010, studying sociology and social science.

Inline Speed Skating Career

In 1996, when Brittany was 8 years old, she started inline skating. She quickly became very good and competed in bigger and bigger events. She took part in world championships from 2002 to 2008. During these years, she won a total of 32 medals! 11 of these medals were won in the senior (adult) championships.

Basketball Career

After the 2008 inline speed skating world championships, Brittany decided to focus more on basketball. She played as a point guard for the Florida Atlantic Owls team at Florida Atlantic University. She was a key player for her college team.

Speed Skating Journey

Brittany saw her friends from inline skating, like Chad Hedrick and Heather Richardson, compete in the 2010 Winter Olympics. This inspired her to try speed skating. In 2010, she decided to take a break from basketball and moved to Salt Lake City to start training in speed skating.

She quickly found success in her new sport. In early 2013, she earned her first medals in the ISU Speed Skating World Cup. She finished third in two 1000-meter races in Calgary, Canada. A few weeks later, she won her first World Cup gold medal in the 1000 meters in Erfurt, Germany. She ended up finishing second overall in the 1000 meters World Cup that season.

On March 23, 2013, Brittany won her first speed skating world championship medal. It was a bronze medal in the women's 1000 meters at the World Single Distance Championships.

In November 2013, Brittany set a new world record for the 1000 meters with a time of 1:12.58 in Salt Lake City. During the 2013–14 World Cup season, she won five medals in the 1000 meters (one gold, three silver, one bronze). This earned her an overall silver medal in the 1000 meters World Cup. She also won medals in the 1500 meters World Cup, getting one gold, one silver, and one bronze.

The 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, were a bit tough for Brittany. She finished 13th in the 500 meters, 8th in the 1000 meters, and 14th in the 1500 meters.

In the 2015 World Single Distance Championships, she had a fantastic performance. She won gold medals in both the 1000 and 1500 meters races, and a silver medal in the 500 meters. She also won the 2015 World Sprint Championships that same year.

During the 2014–15 World Cup season, Brittany continued her success. She won four medals in the 500 meters, five medals in the 1000 meters (including three golds, which led to an overall win in the 1000 meters World Cup), and three medals in the 1500 meters.
