Brookfield is a small town in Orange County, Vermont, in the United States. It was officially created on August 5, 1781. In 2020, about 1,244 people lived there.
Brookfield is famous for its unique floating bridge. This bridge crosses Sunset Lake and floats on top of the water using special supports called pontoons. It's the only floating bridge east of the Mississippi River! The bridge was first built way back in 1820.
Sunset Lake is also where an exciting annual ice harvesting festival takes place. Brookfield is also proud to have Vermont's oldest library that has been open non-stop since 1791. The town's main village area is recognized as a special historic place.
